This is probably more of a pet peeve than anything else, but it's just a suggestion that might streamline things on the board a little. When you are quoting a previous post, instead of copying the entire post, either pare down the quote to the relevant sentences, which many of us already do, or use the ellipsis "... ..." including enough of the quote so that you can indicate who and what you are quoting without filling the pages with repeat after repeat of the same material. This can be particularly troublesome in the photo threads when several people quote and comment on the same post that may hold large photos. Quoting is sometimes not even necessary if you reference the person. Many of us do this in some form or the other while others always quote the entire thing without fail. Just a suggestion.

When I need to set out a mouse trap, I always put it out with out setting it the first time so they feel comfortable coming for a snack. After they take it once, then I set it and OH SNAP! Gets 'em every time. I don't know why I thought of that all of a sudden.

I know Tremor is just yanking your chain speedy, but that is a very good suggestion. I don't want to make something like that required forum behavior, because that would give us all yet another thing to start criticizing each other for, but still... it's good advice. A related example... I find it annoying (in a minor way) at my office when people requote an entire l-o-n-g email message and insert a tiny reply way down at the bottom that I have to scroll down to see.
Here's a related forum suggestion: When you quote a post with a photo in it, unless you really *need* redisplay the photo for your post to make sense, it's better not to include the image when you quote another person's post. Seeing the same image displayed over and over in a discussion is not what forum visitors want, but it also makes the forum pages display more slowly when there are extra images to render.

Sheldon, you misspelled "Optimisto." It does not start with an S.
See, I didn't even need to use a quote. The message is quite clear.

Does everyone even know how to pare down a quote? MANY_Skating Dave had to tell me how in private pm's. So for those of you who don't, this is how (and if there is an easier way that I don't know about, let me know!)
1. Make sure the beginning of the quote remains with the tag name of who wrote the quote, and the beginning [Quote] must remain too.
2. Then highlight everything you want to delete. after the initial quote, in blue and delete it.
3. Make sure you type in a new end quote (if you deleted it) or want to save bits of peoples quotes and comment yourself after each one. So, basically at the beginning of each quote you want to save you have to have "QUOTE"at the beginning and "/QUOTE" at the end....don't forget the slash for the end quote, or it won't come out right. Don't forget the brackets. I couldn't use them here because it was putting my sentence in quotes!
Now, for all you computer smarties who know how to comment in the same post from two different people's comments, CLUE ME IN! I still haven't figured that out yet. Some of you know how and if I don't learn, you may be getting a pm from me asking for your patience to teach me! :D:wink::)
Sorry if this isn't very clear. It was the best I could do!

...Now, for all you computer smarties who know how to comment in the same post from two different people's comments, CLUE ME IN!
You mean like this?
When you want to copy a quote within a post, the first thing you do is click on the little periwinkle colored box beside the original poster's name. That is a link to the original post. At the bottom right hand corner of the post by is a little toggle box with quotation marks in it that you click "on" (it will turn orange) and that copies that whole post into your quote. Note, you may have to pare down that quote to the part you want. Then you hit the Back key to retreat back to the main post you are quoting and hit the "quote" button. At that point both posts will appear in your Submit Reply box and you can start editing and replying. You can also toggle the quotes before you hit Post a Reply and it will copy them that way also.
Once you toggle a quote "on" it stays on until you turn it off or quote it. If you try to post something somewhere else, it will alert you that you have "hot" quotes out there and ask you if you want to include it or turn it off.
In the quote below, if you click on my name, it takes you back to the post I quoted. From there, you could include, Tremor's reply by clicking on his name which takes you to his post which includes my first post which you could also include. That's a great idea! :D (Ummm... does your eye hurt from me poking it? Good morning , I'm a b@st@rd, aren't I? hehehe)

Actually, periwinkle is purty. :D
I admit to guilt of quoting long posts (hanging head in shame), BUT, in my defense, sometimes I forget I can do that, and other times I delete part of the quote thingy and it comes out all weird.

Hi President Speedy,
Bill in Houston, Tuesday, All
When you are quoting a previous post, instead of copying the entire post, either pare down the quote to the relevant sentences, which many of us already do, or use the ellipsis "... ..." including enough of the quote so that you can indicate who and what you are quoting without filling the pages with repeat after repeat of the same material.
The question is where and how does Kathie put this advice in an active area.
And more so how do we get new members to learn and easily apply this stuff.
Maybe someplace in the FAQ, yet many don't read the rules and just jump in headstrong.
Kathie has these smilies over on the side maybe that is the ticket. I am not sure how much she can control with this S/Ware. If she could add some panes during a posting session we might get some of this stuff fixed. Particularly getting rid of the pictures repeated on and on by many posters would be nice.
Kathie, Maybe you can go back to the S/W people you are paying to make some S/W updates for your needs. I am thinking of a block just below the smilies would be the easiest S/W upgrade and easier than panes.
Yours in Skating, MA/NY Skating Dave
