What's your speed?

If you're planning on having me show up just to kill me, then I'm out.

15mph is where I'm comfortable,, by myself at least...

Sunday I'm off "as it looks now." And I would love to check out Flatwoods soon. So I may be in!!!

Calendar (http://www.a2afl.com)

I know there's nothing for that date there yet, but that weekend I'll likely be at Flatwoods Saturday after practice, then on the Suncoast Sunday. If you guys want to meet at a different time and place, please put it on the calendar so other skaters can join you. We're trying to get all the Tampans organized :p

15 is usually on my high end for a casual skate... I'm sure the speed demons will leave us in the dust, but I'm used to it LOL! Of course I always do better in a group setting, so I can probably hang with you for at least a mile or two, or even a whole lap if I'm lucky

RE: Blisters... the problem has yet to be fixed, but the blisters are gone. I'm just not using those particualr skates, at least not till I can get them fixed!

Say What???

And as best as I can tell a Saturday skate is certainly in reason. That will give you somebody slower to hang with.

Maybe the 31st would be a good first day to skate again slowly around watching the rest of you guys fly by...That would be about 6 weeks from my injury. Will you remind me daughter?

Pending weather... it sounds like Saturday the 31st is a winner!!!

What about time? Jessica mentioned "after practice", but not a time... 9, 10, noon??? I'm up for any time 9AM or later.

Hi all....

My name is Jon bought k2 motos two days ago and been riding the ream wilson trail here in Clearwater since I live right next to it. Bought my first pair of skates when I was 10 one of those with a cheap abs construction along with the real cheap abs plastic wheels so I ditched those and never got back on inlines till now. I'm not your average beginner though I have many years of ice skating and I can hold my own...

Enough about me though do I need a special invitation for these group rides or is it a open ride? I have no clue how fast I can go so I am sort of expecting to eat dust......

Are there any other decent trails here in Tampa Bay area that are worth looking into?

Hello Jon :)

No special invites required, at least not that I'm aware of...

I've done a bit of Ice Skating myself & I must say... at least for me... it's easier & faster on wheels, but the later may be due to the former:D

Feel free to come join us, meet some of your fellow area skaters... and anyone else who might show up... & hopefully have a good time!!!

lol

Practice is over at 9, so I go home and meet everyone at 4 corners. Usually the meet time says 9:30 at the Morris Bridge entrance, but I won't be there obviously. I'll meet y'all on the trail.

Jon - everyone is welcome. There are tons of group skates in the Clearwater area, but I don't get over that way too often. If you would like to skate with us, please check the calendar on my site and just show up!!

Malkovsky, if we get our schedules together sometime in the future- and if you would like, we could car-pool to Tampa.

We could drive to a spot here in Pinellas, park it-- and drive in together..

Of course there is an issue of going Green and fairness involved ......

Either I-- or you, can kick down $10. to help pay for gas.... We'll work it out,,, just let me know if you'd be interested......

Im in.

i'm capable of sucking real bad 10-12 or cruising 13-16mph. 16+ i get dusted after about a quarter mile. I'm actually getting to skate more often and the knee is not so bad so i'm thinking i'll average 14mph over 7-14miles.

Hey, I'm up for that! We got one car for 2 people and I am the one who usually gets the "nope I need it today" line so that be great and I can kick some green down your way which is fine. Also I'm on the way to Tampa I live right next the Camble bridge and bayside bridge so its not to far off. Let me know when you up for it...

I'm sure the speed demons will leave us in the dust, but I'm used to it LOL!

I think there's only one speed demon involved here. Some say she once chased a cyclist into the bushes, and she only eats chocolate. All we know is, she's called the Queen of the Mile.

9AM sounds like a good arrival time to me... Arrive at the park 9AM, start skating by 9:30.

LOL!!! compared to me, a lot of people are speed demons :)

I once ran a bicyclist off the path, she wrecked but was okay, I managed to stay on my skates by running into the grass then back onto the pavement... long story short, instead of keeping her line so that we wouldn't even come close, she took a b-line right at me & I pulled out some ninja-like reflexes to keep from getting flattened.

Chocolate eh... so that's what I'm doing wrong...

Flatwood is nice, I skated last night. Very smooth, and you are committed to at least 7 miles!

Need to learn to close my mouth during those night skates. The bugs don't taste bad, they just get stuck in your throat.

Could someone give me directions to flatwoods from Clearwater? I'd like to check it out during the week since I work downtown Tampa.

Thank you for the directions. I went to flatwoods this morning right after work and loved it! I'll probably be there every sunday to do a loop or two.

Did any ladies come out and ride there today (sunday). I seen a female rider there and she was pretty darn fast and I figured shed be from this place :D

Malkovsky

P.S: How long does it take you to do the 7 mile loop? I did it in about 45 minutes plus minus so I wanna see where I stand though I did ride pretty slow....I was amazed by the surroundings.

Jessica

I wasn't there on Sunday, so it wasn't me :) I haven't timed myself in a while, but it takes me about 22-25 minutes to do the loop.

Sorry we'll miss you on Sundays - we'll be over at the Suncoast :(

You can always hang around a little later, if nothing else, just to meet some new faces :) But I know how it is on the 3rd shift, did it for 2+ years, & just had a refresher course the past couple of Sunday nights / Monday mornings :frown: Thank god that's over with...

Accuweather puts it at a warm but otherwise pleasant day, high in the low to mid 90's partly cloudy with 29% chance for isolated afternoon thunderstorms, 65% humidity, weather.com says almost the exact same thing. UV index is at Max so be sure to bring (& use) your sunscreen.

BTW... I'm planing to make a day of it in Tampa on Saturday, lunch after skating, followed by a trip to MOSI (across from USF, not far from Flatwoods) for a couple of IMAX movies & the 2008 Hurricane Expo... I'm a MOSI Max member so since I'm nearby & it won't cost me anything... why not :D

Haven't made any lunch plans, but I now there are several restaraunts on Fowler near near MOSI, & probaly several on Fletcher and Bruce B Downs as well. Caddy Corner from MOSI is a Perkins (best Perkins I've ever eaten at BTW);CDB's Pizza & Itallian Restaurant and Beef O'Brady's, are also near by, all of which are pretty darned good IMO. Everyone is welcome to join me... on your dime ;)

Well, I'm off to try out my brand new Gold MPC Street Fight wheels...

So... where was everyone??? I got up early, & drove 38 miles (one way) to skate alone

I turned into the park at 9:05AM, but had to stop at the bathrooms before parking & puting my skates on. Didn't see anyone there besides a lot of cyclists, so I took my time puting my skates on & what not, about 45min, enough time for just about anyone who might have been skating already to come back around... Saw about a half dozen casual skaters, including two who looked like roller derby girls, & a guy skating with them, all 3 on quads. I was 1 out of just 2 skaters (that I saw) who wore a helmet :( I skated 23.34 miles total, doing 2 loops, plus the leg over to BBD Blvd both times just to see if anyone parked over there...

I started off with my brand new MPC Street Fight Gold wheels & the best/smoothest/fastest bearings I own. After the first loop I switched to the White Matters & some generic ABEC-7 bearings... I'm not going to go into any detail here, but the Matters are better...

After finishing the 2nd loop, I took my time again, about 45 minutes again, & didn't see a sole besides the roller derby girls & the guy that was skating with them, so I finaly left a little after 1PM.

Oh well, I guess I'm just stuck skating alone forever...

I don't know how we missed you. Like I said, I came from practice and skated to 4 corners (the other side of the park) where I called my mom to get an update. She and Mark had started around 9am at the Y (not sure on the exact time but Mark says he didn't see you). When I talked to them (around 10 I guess) they were a mile from the Y, where they waited for me to come around. At that point we skated my mom back to the car at the ranger station, then finished another 1/2 loop.

Maybe you should give me your phone number

 Dang... best offer I've had in years  ;) :) Should have thought of that much sooner though. I did think about it, but not until Saturday morning... durring the drive over... Also should have thought to mention which car I would be driving (my little grey Hyundai instead of the big black Hyundai I drove to the E.M. Roadshow), & where I planned on parking, all of which might have helped:redface: Next time, I won't miss those little details!

Dang... I left from the Y on my very first loop at 9:57AM, only missed by a couple of minutes. If you hadn't skated to the Ranger Station, I'm sure you would have flown by me by the half way point ;)

Son of A, lkvnjkankjnsdka I totally let the date slip by! Man that suks, i did go out that weekend, but late in the afternoon:mad: I've been slowly trying to recover from this knee thing, so maybe i wouldn't have been much fun anyways.

Legs are very weak lately having trouble getting back to my old avg speed. I'll have to read up on this to see how it went for you.
