Beijing Weekly Street Skates (BWS)
In every Friday evening from April to November, a group of skaters collect at the starting point (normally the Square of Beijing Exhibition Hall, at Xizhimenwai Street, near the Beijing Zoo) and skate a predetermined route through the city. The starting time is normally on 19:30.
It's a great way to take in the sights and see the city, as you can easily cover a lot of distance on your skates, but without going so fast as to miss much of the scenery.
Skate is often accompanied by a sound system, which adds to the party atmosphere. And a photographer takes pictures for you. After each skate you may download your photos from BWS’ website.
Routes are generally varied to take in a different part of the city. Most of the skates are about 15-20 km, and take between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the route. There are plenty of rest stops along the way.
The skates normally finish back at the palace near the subway stations or night bus stops.
