I never realized agressive inline skating was such an ab workout. For the first month it didn't bother my abs at all but I think this was because I wasn't bending my knees enough. I was getting tierd of too often not pulling my legs up enough to loch my soul grinds so I started to really pull my legs up.
It give you a much better feeling of locking on. Your skates hit harder and I slid faster. However, after doing that all day I can't sit up without pulling on my legs and I have trouble even pulling my knees up when I'm trying to get comfortable on my bed laying on my side.
It might have something to do with landing on my stomach the day before but I think it is mostly due to it takes a lot of abdominal strength to pull your knees up high jumping on to ledges for several hours at a time.

Yeah, me too. I"m a tired pup. Too tired to do my laundry, lol. My arms and legs are beat! I think this type of skating takes tons more muscle strength and power then the other types. I dont get this tired out at the rink. I also have soft wheels so it takes more effort for outdoors. I think I burn tons of energy too. Or I could just be outta shape. Yep, cant move right now, lol.

Man I hear ya, my abs were KILLING me the first week, I think it's finally starting to go away. For a couple day it felt like I was getting shot in the stomach every time I jumped. I pulled something in my lower stomach too...but that seems to be just about gone now too.
Hopefully my skating will be unimpaired this week!

You know what really kills my abs. There is this ledge I want to be able to grind that goes down hill and is hirer then my knees. After my abs get tiered from skating other stuff trying to do that ledge and it completely kills my abs. It is like the finishing blow.

If your abs are hurting, you may want to exercise them a little when your chillin at night. A good thing to do is lay on your back with your hands under your butt. Lift your legs 6 inches in the air without bending your knees, and point your toes straight ahead as far as you can. Whoever can do this for 2 minutes without taking a break is officially the "Ab-Master" If you keep this up for a week or so, you may notice your abs dont hurt as much after a long day of skating. You may pull your back out though lol.

I don't know about that. I hate situps. I think skating is enough for them. Maybe the days I can't make it out skating I'll try that. I think stretching is more important. I did some arches before I went skating to stretch my abdominals. They were actually easier then usual. I would of never thought skating would make doing arches easier.

Well, I was only able to skate for about an hour before my abs got to week to safely skate. I new it was time to stop, when jumping on high things made my obliques sore and when I fall my abs are barely strong enough to support my own weight.
Although an hour is not that long I spent most of the time trying to grind something higher then I'm use to grinding. I actually started to get it a little bit after later in the day. When I started attempting this today I was less then 10% of them I couldn't even get a stall. Later in the day I was over 80% and most of those I actually grinned somewhat. It seems to take a lot of practice to grind something higher then your knees which is down an incline. At least it does for a beginner.

Hey, I'm impressed! I cant jump higher then my knees, not yet. So its all ab muscles it seems right?

Yeah Dudette, the abs do have alot to do with how high you get, but also flexibilty and leg strength. I had a freind that could bring his knees above his head when he jumped, and it allowed him to grind stuff as high as his stomach and chest.

The higher you bring them up.....the more options you have!

OK, cool, so work on my abs, but isnt it also your calves? I need to do plyometrics I guess to get my legs used to this. I never did much jumping when I was younger but now its so incredibly fun. I want to get HIGH. Was going to build a ramp for jumping but I think its better to get air by learning to leap higher.

If you thought skating was hard on the abs, try using crutches up flights of stairs. Going up requires ab muscles lifting your weight up to the next step.
Going long distances on crutches only hurts the palm of my hands, but those stairs will do a number on your abs.

How many flights did you have to go up with them?

I'm getting really dedicated. I stretched before I skated. I was at the skate park until I couldn't possibly skate any more because my abs were too sore (approximately two hours). I then went to the gym. Burned 100 calories on the elliptical machine. Stretched some more. Went for a jog. Then combined some stretching with some light weights for the upper body.

Man, good job! Hey, I might be sorta out for a bit so I'm going to hit the weights again and work on my core. Can only help!

A few flights if I'm in the building, and that's after going about 1/2 a mile across campus. It doesn't sound like much, but it hurts like the dickens. And up to the day I had my surgery, I was skating 3-4 hours a day and doing 200 crunches and not feeling the least bit tired. After a few errands on the crutches, my upper body is sore and I'm exhausted.
Oh, check out my new boot. Great Ankle support.

Dang, now that is an aggressive boot if you ask me, lol! Awwww, I feel for ya. So hey, what are you doing now to keep yourself occupied. My butt hurts and I'm already bored outta my mind. I might go lift weights tomorrow or something. Not fun but least it will keep me in shape and strong.

Ha. First off, everything I do takes about 10 times longer and expends much more energy. Even going to the bathroom requires planning and preparation.
When I'm at home, I roll around the house in my computer chair, watching movies, and working. Then at least once at day, I'll go out to a store, the mall, or grocery store. Just to get fresh air. In the evenings, I'll go to a coffee shop to do work, sometimes with one of the dogs.
For exercise, I lay in bed and do crunches or lift some small weights while sitting. My dogs are bored out of their minds. They keep looking for something to do, something to bark at, or something to eat. My little one will jump on the cast, whack it with her paw, and try to pull my toes out.
It does get boring just sitting. REALLY boring. I just took off the hard boot today and washed the my right leg. I've lost all muscle mass in that calf now. :frown: That was really depressing.
