Hello world,

here I go:
http://www.24skate.net/pics/clemensinzaragoza24tshirt.jpg

I am wearing this year's edition of the helmet for the bladeguards of the world's biggest (?) skate event, the Munich Bladenight (Munich, Germany; more at http://www.24skate.net/home_xmbn.htm). The more creative (or crazy ?) bladeguards have some speedy items on their helmets. This year I chose a pegasus. Unfortunately I forgot to turn on its lights for the picture.

The T-shirt was sent to me by skaters in Zaragoza, Spain, who had the biggest event this year during the third edition of the world-wide 24hour skate which I founded to support UNICEF. I will tell you more about it only later, because I plan to re-ramp the website.
But Zaragoza's report is more than good enough for you (at: http://www.24skate.net/docs/results24skate3/24skateZaragoza.pdf)

Best regards
Clemens

Hi Kathie,

here is another helmet out of my collection:

Thank you - the view is upstream from the last, and newest bridge over the Rhine in Basel. The sidewalk and bikepaths are exceptionally wide, no doubt thanks to its twin levels.

I often chase bikes on the left (northern) bank when coming back from Germany... :p Oh, and there's one dangerous hole it's good to know about!

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/3710/barrymsskate2006cropedimg3698ud5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This was at the finish line of the Seattle MS Skate marathon. Finished in 8th place,
Time: 1 hour, 21 minutes, 1 second (30 seconds behind the winner)

A very good event for me in that i caught the lead pack some 3 or 4 miles into the event, through shear will power, and managed to hold on until about 2 miles before the finish, when i was just too tired out from pulling about 3 times for a total of maybe 4 miles. Got to skate with some great skaters, for which i felt extremely fortunate, including Jeremy Anderson, a Bont sponsored Vet skater, a 2005 USA World Team skater, and the winners of several area marathons.

I had hoped that this event would hone my skills for the upcoming Northshore marathon in Duluth, but unfortunately, the rains came and i opted out. So this was my big race for this year, and as such, the photographer for the event just got me the digital copes of these pics this morning.

Note:- i'd like to be a little lower, but at the end of a marathon on a very tough course, you do the best you can.

I would post a photo of my blistered toes after the 50-mile race, but I'm guessing the T&C for this forum prohibits gross-out images. The water did look tempting at mile 40... but as tired as my legs were, swimming wouldn't have gone so well, and it would have been a watery grave for 80209Skater.

If this was a prefect world in my mind, no one would ever be wearing spandex!

Funky picture.

Aye on both counts! I appreciate that spandex increases your skating velocity by about 3-5 mph (and, yes, studies have been done  )but I really think I prefer folks in jeans and a t-shirt. Now guys, being guys, always seem to have a different take.

I like the picture, too. :D

Thanks! last bout I skated in a short purple Kimono and black obi--oh, and socks with skulls and flowers on them. For December's bout I have to figure out something red with faux fur trim...any ideas?

And the honeymoon picture--I hope skating keeps me looking that young. 50 on skates=the new 35!

That move is rather hard for me, (being female)and that position is only held for a split second . I then have to push while simultaneously snapping my legs back under me. Luckily this skill has become much more consistent for me within the past year. One of the guys in our skating group does this quite well as he can link it with other acrobatic moves. The below video clip shows Jeremiah in action (requires QuickTime). Enjoy:D

yeah, really good to see you hear, Jimmy. But by the way, we don't call it rollerblading on here. We call it rollerskating. Unless of course your on Roller Blade brand skates, but somehow i doubt that. LOL.

ok, rollerskating...got it.. but isnt that on regular traditional skates? :p

what about bladeskating? HEHEI've been questioned by local authorities when I've skated in places with signs posted telling "No Rollerblading".

When questioned why I was doing it, my response was, "I'm not rollerblading, because none of the components of my skates are made by the company Rollerblade. I'm inline skating, big difference."

I usually get a really snide look from whoever questioned me about it and I usually go on my way. (with a nice little smirk on my face)

Man I hesitate to post this, I'm not one who looks, shall we say "svelte" in lycra LOL. Think about the fact that I have this horrible gut now and I've actually lost 27 pounds... it could be worse! This is me in the rain at the St. Paul Marathon - maybe you saw me puffing along. This was during one of the solo miles where I was searching for a pack. You can at least see how wet it was.

Central Park is closed to cars on the weekends I believe. I didn't see any cars in there on Saturday or Sunday when we skated through. Saw and smelled plenty of horses though. Ick. However, I remember from my trip to NYC a couple years ago, there were cars in the park during the week. Hope that helps. :)

Found the schedule: (http://www.ny.com/sights/neighborhoods/central_park.html)

The internal "loop" (known officially as Park Drive) is approximately 6 miles around and is closed to traffic on weekdays from 10am-3pm and 7pm - 10pm, and from Friday night at 7pm until Monday morning at 6am. From the day before Thanksgiving until the first business day of the new year, the drives are still closed on weekends, but are open 24 hours a day on weekdays.
