It's coming up real fast, and I'm hoping that someone from Skateland might be able to give more info, but there will be a "Skate-A-Thon" at Skateland on Monday, March 17th, 2008, from Noon to 6pm. Not really a marathon per se but kewl nonetheless. The charity that benefits is ThinkCure (http://www.thinkcure.org/), a fund raising effort for cancer research at City of Hope (http://www.coh.org/) and Children's Hospital Los Angeles (http://www.childrenshospitalla.org/) sponsored by the LA Dodgers, USC athletic programs and a whole bunch of other like-minded individuals and companies.
This is personal for me, because my husband Richie has multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, and has been in remission since June thanks to the great efforts of City of Hope and Dr. Stephen Forman in particular. ThinkCure is Dr. Forman's brainchild, and he approached the Dodgers to start the ball rolling. It was a happy coincidence that when I got back into skating the connection between Skateland and ThinkCure had existed for months beforehand.
The phone number at Skateland is 818-885-7655, and Vickie, the woman who does Community Relations there is reachable via email at vickie at skateland dot net. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear from you. Getting sponsors might be hairy with this short notice but every little bit helps.
I hope some LA-area denizens here get a chance to participate. It'll be rough for me because LA Valley College is taking its Spring Break starting that Friday, but my classes are night classes anyway, and I'm "between jobs" so I'll prolly be able to participate for at least part of the time.
