Inlines are not banned.

The rules effecting skates used to say that skates had to have 4 wheels, one in each corner (i.e. quads), but that has been replaced with words to the effect that skates must be safe, in good condition, and no heel brake. And that is about it.

My personal viewpoint as to why quads are used rather than inlines is partly historical, but also because the shape of the stick, and the use of a ball allow control much closer to the body than inline/ice skating sticks. And with no checking allowed, keeping the ball close to the body, and twisting and turning make quads a better choice.

Having said that, I know one team that has 3 inline skaters. They make use of the speed that inline skaters can achieve, leaving quad skaters in their wake.
