Earmuffs and arm warmers add significant warmth while being small enough to stash on your person. This is trivially done if you wear a hydration pack. Practice if you need to stash them in your pockets.

If I were doing the combined, I think I would keep either the arm warmers or the muffs on for the half but stash both for the full.
