Some skaters find it better to go with two sets of shorter laces. One lacing up the bottom half and the other at the top half. Some find this makes it easier to get the boots as tight or as loose as they want in certain spots while limiting the natural tendency for laces to "equalize."

Like anything, I suppose it depends on what you want and need out of your laces. Someone out there has an entire web site dedicated to alternative lacings.

You think picking your boots, plates, cushions, bearings and wheels was complicated enough? Ha!
