Default Skate Floor resurface went bad

My local rink hadnt resurfaced there maple floor for 5 years.. The closed down the rink for 4 days and put on the shiny stuff.. However I guess the messed up becasue it wasnt flat and bubbled up everywhere.. The let people skate on it and it was real sticky.. so now they are shutting down again and trying it for the second time.. but its so bad I dont see how they are gonna fix it..what a way to mess up a good maple floor.

Hi stickstome2,

That's a real bummer, both for the Patrons and the Rink owners.

Could be "Bad Product", bad "Doing It", or Bad Prep of the Floor. Likely will have to Sand down a bit, if not totally, and hope to "Do it Right" next time.

Very costly for "doing" and the Down Time of the Rink.

Hope it goes well this time !!

Default DIY Results

Heard this a few times over the years. It sounds like a Do It Yourself Job (DIY) by poor planners.

Poor Prep, Poor Planning, Produces Poor Product.

I know a few that have done it themselves, yet they really get into the Prep and the Planning and the Results turned out just fine to great.

Most bring in the Floor Specialists, who are fast and careful. I think the best one I have seen personally was in Michigan over a Lake. If I remember right they came out of Grande Rapids, MI. I mean they had to also do some edge trimming to remove floor buckles. Again those two sister owners had an interesting floor and a sub_floor structure.

Yours in Skating, MA/NY Skating Dave

Edit-01: Shoot that was MI not IN. That IN floor needed a coating for a long time.
