I'm really enjoying the overall experience being on the SkateLog Forum, with that said, this particular Roller Dance and Session Skating Forum is pretty quiet compared to the rest on here
![]() Do any of us skating in or around big events in the towns and cities we live in ? And are there any of us involved in roller skating clubs? Just curious..... I'm very actively involved in a skate club called Naptown Skate Nation and I've skated at a number of events in the midwest. ![]() Here's some video related to the posted picture http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbElqaFtpQw

A group go practically every weekend from my "home" rink to skate outdoors on Southport Pier.
I haven't yet had chance to join them but it does sound fun

There's an outdoor group about an hour south of here, and down in London too ... I'm hoping to get to both sometime this year ...
Around here though, there's just me and some friends when the weathers good, at a local business area thats clear at the weekends and has good smooth asphalt, but I'm the only one of them who dances

Hey Style,
I think that the skate clubs are more of an East-Side-of-the-Rockies thing. Seems more informal on the West Coast: you may already know about these. The only one I've been to is the one at the one in Golden Gate Park (thanks: David Miles) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MLw_...eature=related But, I know there's outdoor skating in San Diego: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVx4Zl3Ul_A and LA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxtJTBAaUTE Where I live, rolling outside usually means: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMrg7kNyRtA But, actually, people are pretty nice here, after living in the city for thirty years, my wife and are always surprised how different it is. |

I've always enjoyed that sequence at time code 1:15 Wildstyle. That particular pattern throws off so many. What do you call it in Naptown? I've heard it called "down town" when it's the basic side to side. In some parts of the south and west they prefer to do it at 3 count, but I've always liked it better on a 4 as primarily done in your region. Here's one of my favorite skaters visiting the windy city executing same figure on 4.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...410&pr=goog-sl Here's the basic move in the same vein done on 3's in San Diego. Time code 1:22-1:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHWmx...tailpage#t=87s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHWmx...feature=relmfu Pretty interesting isn't it

I can remember it being done by several of the travelling veteran skaters for at least 12 years. I've been told some of them picked it up in St. Louis. But more than likely it was at the Skills on Wheels national skate party there, which means its true origin could be much further away. I've always favored it for shows and performances because it looks complicated to non-skaters and to many that don't do steps, even though it isn't very complicated. I love seeing the different variations of the moves we do. I wish we could keep better track of all the history to them too.

Ah! I have heard that term "4 corners" before. However, I didn't realize it referred to this move as well. Good to know.

Sometimes I wish I was still in Boston or Indy .......I'm lucky there's 40-50 people at the rink every week to skate with.
