Here's how to embed a photo in a message in the SkateLog Forum:
When you are posting or replying to a message, one of the icons above the message box is a yellow picture of two mountains and a sun (it's the fifth icon from the right). That's the "Insert Image" tool.
Note that the photo you want to insert in a message must already be posted on the Web. If you are not sure how to get your photo on the Web, try using one of the Free Image Hosting Web Sites. HOW TO RECOGNIZE AN IMAGE FILE: You must insert the image file itself, not the Web page the image is on, therefore the URL must end with either .jpg or .gif. Inserting the URL of the Web page containing the image will not work, therefore the image file you insert cannot not end in .htm or .html (because those are Web pages, not image files). LINKING TO A MESSAGE INSTEAD OF EMBEDDING IT: Some of the free Web sites that let you upload and store your photos will not allow you to hot link to those photos. If that is the case, using the "Insert Image" tool will not work. Instead you can use the "Insert Link" tool - that's the one with the globe and the chain link - the eighth tool from the right. When you use the Insert Link tool, you will only be linking to the image, not displaying it in this forum. NO HOT-LINKING TO IMAGES ON OTHER PEOPLE'S WEB SITES: We have a policy in this forum that does not allow hot-linking to third party images to display them in this forum. You can hot-link to images on your own Web site, and to your own images on one of the free image hosting sites, but you cannot display other people's photos in this forum without their permission. You may, however, include a regular link to an image on someone else's Web site. For more information about our forum policies see SkateLog Forum Guidelines. - Kathie Last edited by Kathie Fry; April 18th, 2007 at 05:00 PM. |

![]() ![]() You can also use .PNG graphics files, as demonstrated by the custom forum header I created just for this purpose haha. The image above uses this tag: [IMG] http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3...telogforum.png [/IMG] PS: Kathie, maybe you should hold a contest for people to design a logo for the site hehe.

Get a free myspace account. Upload yer favorite pics to there. Switch to "view in public mode" (a link at the top of the screen) and when you select the pic you want, do a right click on it, and do a "properties" on it. Highlight with the mouse the url info, looks something like: http://www.images.myspace.e98203948cl.jpg (or whatever the properties of it are) and then right click on the highlighted text and select copy.
Then come back here and when you post, push the icon over your message composition box (5th one to the right) and delete out the http:// stuff in the box, and press paste. The url info will appear and press ok. Voila. Even you can do it Skateguy! ![]()

You will not be able to upload photos to the SkateLog Forum, because allowing uploads is a security risk, but it is easy to display a photo in a SkateLog Forum message if the picture is already posted on another Web site. If you don't have your own Web site, you can upload your pictures to one of the free photo storage Web sites such as Flickr.

Hey there Kathie,
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I can't have a profile photo or avatar. Every time I try any file format and go "save changes", I get a message stating "Upload of file failed". I have a Photobucket account and can't link it to that (link fails). I've also tried uploading a photo from my computer and it also fails. What am I doing wrong? The photos are small (less than 400 x 400 pixels), and the link to my Photobucket album works fine for other websites... The direct link is: http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...ha/Cnv0003.jpg That picture is only 100 x 100 pixels. Any help much appreciated - thanks!

Almost daily I see photos IN the posts, not text links. My post shows the link and it works fine, but others have the photo right in the post. Do they have higher privileges?
Cheers, THOM examples with Photos in the post: http://www.skatelogforum.com/forums/...ad.php?t=19788 http://www.skatelogforum.com/forums/...ad.php?t=20401 |

On one of those example posts, hit "reply" and look at the code that they used to make it work.
OR Post a link to your photo, and someone here will make it show up right, and you can look at their code. Usually the problem is that people are not figuring out the right url by using right-click, Properties, or they are not cleaning up the url and making sure it ends with .jpg |

Here is how I posted pics using Photobucket
After photos are uploaded to Photobucket 1. Go to recent uploads click "share" above the photo 2. Click "Link Code" tab 3. Go to 2nd option "Direct link for layout pages" 4. Left click mouse to copy and paste link. Copy link 5. Place cursor where you want photo 6. Click the square yellow icon that looks like 2 mountains and a sun paste your URL in the box. Click OK that will close and then click save if your editing or submit reply if its new for the post. DONE

After posting this I realized the date was 2009. But here it is anyway for others to look at....
![]() ThommyBoy, Not real difficult to understand just bear with me. The pics you see displayed in a post are 'hosted' somewhere else besides this forum. Some forums will allow a certain amount of image data to be uploaded and displayed. The ladies have the 'upload image' feature shut off here. So you have to upload your pics to a site like Photobucket, but there are many others. Some of these picture holding sites will show a 'link' you can paste into a webpage, blog, or on a forum like here. This link may not be correct to have it display as a pic, so you get a 'hotlink' to see the pic in your post. This is a hot link: http://www.skatelogforum.com/forums/...ine=1284756267 you can click it to view the pic. It's what comes before and after it that 'embeds' it into the post. This is explained below. When you click the 'Insert Image' icon, ![]() Notice when you finish this process it displays your path in between [IMG] & [/IMG] in your reply post before you submit it. It will look something like this. (Noticed I changed the brackets so you can see this example) [IMG}go here to get my pic and display it[/IMG} If I left the brackets the way they should be you get the big Red X, like this. The path is invalid, 'go here to get pic' means nothing on the net. The biggest mistake made is to paste your 'URL path' after the http:// that is highlighted when the text box opens. This causes the big Red X to appear again. The reason is the website cannot find the pic because the path is invalid, usually you will have two http:// instead of one when this happens. So now you are wondering how did I get the 'insert image' icon to display in the post? It's as easy as this. 1. Place your curser over the image icon on the 'reply to post' page. 2. Right click on the icon and select properties. 3. Highlight the URL path in the properties box 4. Right click and select copy. 5. Now left click on the 'insert image' icon like you normally would. 6. When the window appears, (making sure to leave the http:// highlighted) place the curser over the highlighted http:// and select paste. 7. Click Ok and the icon will appear in your post. This can be done to most any image unless the webmaster of the site the image is on, has things locked down so you can't copy the URL. Here is the Twitter pic at the top of this page. ![]() Keep in mind you need permission to link to other people's images. and it breaks th SF rules and the ladies may delete your pic...

Why aren't I able to insert images into my posts? I posted the link to my photo bucket account, and the link appeared in my post preview, but not in my post.

Copy and paste the link that has the image tags at the ends of the link. It will look something like this: [IMG]http://photobucket,com/yourpicture1234[ /IMG]
