I keep telling him he better be ready for an overwhelming rush when he is ready to take the first orders. I will ask him today how he wants to move forward with this. I may have all of you go ahead and I may start a pre order list for him so he knows just what to expect. I know if I am satisfied with my boot when it comes, you will all be happy campers.
If you want to send me email with details I will go ahead and put together a list for him.

i cant remember if you mentioned this before but did this person obtain some of the original tooling and machinery from the oberhamer plant to produce these boots?...did he have to get certain permission also?....man if he had to start from scratch i bet he has a small fortune tied up in these!

Here is the story as I know it to date. He has a partner that is a boot maker.
This guy already has the needed machinery to make the boots. He has an upolstry business and has heavy duty sewing machines. They aquired absoultly nothing from Oberhamer. I was told that he looked into the possibility but Riedell bought everything and destroyed all of the patterns to kill the competition. These guys found as many Oberhamers that they could get there hands on and dismantled them. They used that as a starting point and worked with a third party who used the parts to create all of the patterns to make the boots. They also had to go to another party to have the last made. That has all been done. They also spend alot of time with a lawer to make sure they were not going to be sued after the fact for making these boots. The lawer has done the research and given them the green light to go ahead. So that is where we are. The have taken the high road to make this product. I am sure they could have gone to China and been cranking these boots out last year but I believe my man is in this for life and sees himself being just like old Roy Oberhamer, 30 years from now still making these boots by hand. I wish him all the best and cant wait to get my boot.
The local speed team is traveling down to Cedartown on the 22nd and I hope to get my boots on that trip.
You can send me an email with your info to thburdeshaw@nctc.com
and I will pass this along to give him an idea of how many he needs to crank out in the next few months.

Just a quick comment on keeping the cost down:

Don't use metal eyelets all the way down the boot.

Only the top 2-3 "rows" of holes need eyelets, because that's where all the stress of pulling the laces tight is. Also, eyelets all-the-way looks ugly.

Granted, eyelets are probably only a buck each, but when you only have to fit six instead of twenty, there's both a labour (time) and cost ($14?) saving to be had.

I had an Oberhamer for about 6 months way back in the day. It never felt right to me, I think it was because it did not lace all the way down to the tip of my toe's like i was used to.

I believe that is the 61BR Oberhamer to which you reference.

It is not "My source", you should address your question to XL Racer, he knows how to contact the manufacturer ,,,read the entire thread and you will know the background of the repros.....

I will give him a shout out over the weekend to find out what is going on.
I am trying to be patient with him. This is a learning process for him to get to were he is.

He is working out some quality control issues. Trust me I am just as anxious as the rest of you. As of last week, he has started on my boot. He said he will ship it if he is satisfied with it.

2) anyone heard from docsk8? I've been emailing him for 2 months with no response.

Thanks!

Check your Junk mail or bulk mail folder... Sometimes go in there? The last time I emailed him I thought I didn't get a response until I was clearing out my junk mail folder and saw then there
