A belated congratulations to all who finished A2A, and also to those who gave it a shot but came up short. There's no other skating event quite like it, at least in the USA.
I think I'm more impressed by you folks' ability to stick with your training for these past few months. That might be the hardest part of the event! ----Scott |

I've actually said that several times. The training is the challenge, the event is the reward.

Ok, this is somewhat relevant.
So, I'm in Physical Therapy, just concentrating on breathing as they torture me, and what do I hear over the sound system? Breathe. Couldn't help but laugh. Either the song gets alot of airtime or they time it just right. gbo |

Sounds like the handiwork of the skate goddess to me.
![]() Somewhat relevant? I'd say it's completely relevant, but only you can decide how much of it to acknowledge. ![]() |

Found my picture out there.
Yes, the red stuff is blood. The white stuff is salt. Dev Gnoll at 7:49 BTW: Except for where I had to to avoid being flattened by traffic, and where I picked up the roadrash (mile 10), I didn't stop. I know I wouldn't have re-started. Dev Gnoll |

Does anybody know at what point they pull the police off the route? It seems like an insult to someone who has worked this hard and paid the same fee as everyone else to be abandoned to the traffic at mile 84. Or am I missing something?

There were police at every one, save one, of the downhill traffic lights. (And that one wasn't a "real" downhill) Whether you saw each other, and they started breaking traffic in time was different matter. (If you don't see the traffic being held up, you shouldn't run the red.) There are a very large number of minor sidestreets and driveways. You had right-of-way, but you still had to keep an eye out. There were a few 4-way stops, some on slight downhills, where you were on your own. Since there was often a line of SUVs waiting, I did not want to zoom past them and surprize the cross-traffic. They are not kidding about needing to be able to stop, folks. Dev |

OK thanks Dev...I misunderstood then.
I thought Police that were on the route in the last couple of miles in Atlanta for the elite skaters were not there for the average skaters. |

A2A is not a race. It is a "road skating" event and as such the skaters should not expect that right of way at all intersections.
At most of the intersections the promotors have police to help the traffic but skaters should be able to stop if directed to and/or if the police are not available at an intersection. -Mark

The bolt on brake that I sold, last year was about 120g. Even if you combine the 120g bolt on brake with an ultra light frame like the TRUREV 170g frame you have a package of 290g for brake plus frame. In addition to the weight, I did not like dealing with the hassle of weird skate axles and overall did not like the bolt on brake system. Many customers liked the bolt on brakes so I will make some more but right now I am out of stock although you could check Charlie at Swat Skates. I much prefer a brake+frame integrated solution. My integrated solution is a total of 225g making the brake+frame MUCH lighter then any other combo and at the same time it is probably stronger as well. The non-brake frame is 200g. The other nice thing about the integrated solution is that it has a mount for the leash. And if you want to remove the brake you can simply swap out one frame since it is possible to buy three frames. I personally use a brake 100% of the time when I skate outdoors for racing and training. The brake does not bother me and I have placed top ten in several pro marathon skate races with the system so I personally don't think it creates a problem. When I skate indoors I use a different type of wheels and a different frame and a different boot. My feeling is that it is nice to have a set of boots for indoors and a set for outdoors so you don't have to switch out the wheels every time you switch from one to the other and so you will always have a back up pair of boots in case something goes wrong.

Hmmm...this system Mark has sounds like it could be useful...I would have trouble trusting it, though unless it had some top ten finishes in major speedskating marathons.
