Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Default Aluminum avengers ok?

I'm looking at buying some Avengers and I noticed most people that have them have the magnesium plates. Obviously they're lighter, but I'm leaning towards the aluminum plates for price. Is there anything other than weight that makes the magnesium plates better? Are the aluminum plates prone to breaking or anything? In my limited experience with magnesium (automotive) it tends to be slightly more brittle than cast aluminum.

Default Nothing wrong with aluminum.

The Al Avenger was made specifically to be less expensive without giving up much performance.

However, The few mag plates that have had issues have been replaced by Sure Grip. I sponsor a top 20 ranked derby team and there are between 40 and 50 mag Avengers with no issues since early 2013... A toe stop clamp failure.

Your money, your call.

Thank you! I went ahead and ordered the aluminum plates. Seemed the best option for the money at $110! As much as I would have liked the mag plates, I couldn't justify the extra $60+ for my budget hockey beaters

If you decide to upgrade the bare plates w/ pivots cups, king pins and toe stop lock screw are available.

Thank you. I may eventually. I've been skating/learning in 695's with prolines, so I'm still not sure how I'll like these 265's and da-45s, should be a huge difference, lol.
