There is a team in MO I will need to knock of the cobwebs. When I remember, I will give you the name.

Try the Skate Zone in Jefferson City. They had a team. The rinks web site is still showing that they have practice two nights a week.

was wondering if there was any speed skating in St Louis as well. My need to reach out to them to see if they could use a rink for practice or events.

No speed clubs left in St. Louis that I know of. If you want to get some speed practice in then I suggest Skaterz in Union, MO on Wednesday nights (6 - 9pm). It's an adult session and a few speeders show up for some pace practice. It's a big nice rink.

The exception is next Wednesday (3/31/2010) when the rink is closed for a private party. Other than that we're there every Wednesday night.

How big is the rink?

What is a good size rink for speed practice?

Skaterz in Union is a pretty large rink. I think it's 175' x 75'.

Rollercade in South County is big enough for speed and I think it's 156' x 68' if my memory is correct.

Both of the above allow cones to be set-up for 100 meters with plenty of room.

if you look at my threads, i'm going thru the process of re-opening a rink here in st louis. the rink is about 200x85 or 17,000sqrft of skating surface. i want to make the rink multi session type friendly (roller, derby and speed)

My team was the only Speed team in the St.louis area. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtSDWq6HsJE
I skated out of a rink in Belleville Illinois in the 80's-90's http://www.funspotrocks.com/gallery.asp They dont have a team anymore but It would be a nice rink to visit sense your so close.
The owner Greg Pearson was my coach back in the day. His dad was head of the rink owners association at one time.

We teamed up with a rink in Florissant, MO. and created the gateway speed team. The rink "spinning wheels" was torn down Im told and was owned by
Ron Beilsten who is still in the area.

Two of my Teammates Still Skate/ Work in the skate industry:
Jim Larson of www.atomwheels.com/

www.capitalcityracing.com/

Eddie Buhs of www.tourhockey.com/

I Hope this info is helpful.
1beastnstl Ron and Greg could be helpful in your endevor .
Best wishes,
Warren

I used to skate with Ed ever Monday up at Coachlite. He's a great skater. Saw him maybe a year ago at a speed practice at Rollercade.

I skate at Fun Spot about every other Tuesday night. Nice floor.

I imagine we know a lot of the same people.

I know this is an old thread but here's something you may be interested if you haven't heard of them. The Gateway Inline Speed team. Despite the name, they welcome quad skaters too.
