Default $5 at a garage sale

Yup, only $5 for my new pair of quads. The wheels, bearings and plates may be junk, but practically brand new boots in my size for only $5, can't beat that.

nothing wrong with that deal.

Those wheels aren't exactly junk, either. And are those "hartford" bearings?

Yup, Hartford Golds I am guessing. The wheels might be savable if there is soft urethane down inside. They still have the original grooves in them, but they are hard and dry on the surface.

It's amazing what you can find at garage sales! For instance my mum sold my Altamura freestyle boots with Snyder Imperial plates and Bones artistic wheels for $10AU a few years back...hope whoever bought them gave them a good home

$5? Why can't I ever find stuff like that

That's a helluva score. The plates aren't exactly the best and I honestly don't know much about Hartford Gold bearings (I've never been a fan but I know there's people that like them), but the boot looks pristine and the wheels should be just fine for you after a little regroove.

Hartford bearings are just junk as far as I can tell. They were always the cheapest bearings in the pro shop and they have tons of slop in them right out of the box. ABEC 0.5 I guess, lol! Since I got the boot cheap, I may dump some money into a descent plate. Maybe some new Prolines or something on that order.

Having boots that fit should be a whole new experience. My old skates are size 10.5 and I wear an 8! I will get the wheels turned down and see if it brings any life back to them.

It is weird but the cushions on these Sunlites work much, much better than the ones on two other pairs of Sunlites that I have (my old outdoor skates and my wife's skates). It seems that they were originally a better material than they are today. I am guessing that these skates were purchased in the early 90's but I could be wrong.

Does anyone know how to get the damp, musty smell out of boots?

At the next garage sale you got to, buy that half bottle of drakkar noir, polo, chaps, canoe, or jovan musk that they are selling. Put three drops into each boot each time you skate...

Nice score on the boots, btw.

I just had an idea. You should shoot video of yourself INDOOR with your RC camera rig. That would be sweet. Someone else might have to drive...

I will have to run that one past the owner of the rink and see what he thinks. I think he might go for it.

just be prepared to have your manhood, judgement, skill, and genealogy questioned. they'll eventually smell the blood in the water and find their way here. if they don't make it over in a day or two i'll tell you more.

as for me, i think they look great. black boots and a nice shiny plate are good, good stuff. if i ever got quads, those are pretty much exactly what I would want.
