sorry to be a nitpicker, but the brochure lists it at 8am and is 30 minutes +1 lap which means it's a crit style race and depending on the turnout, could easily wind up being 10+ miles of racing. Great to have a new race! Does anyone know who put this together and if skaters were involved in this? Anyone have any clue on the course?

I have no idea, I will see what I can find out - but I'm not sure Cale knows any more than he told me.

From Cale:

" You have the original flyer which is incorrect. The flyer attaced to this email is current and lists it as a 10 K..... the course is a basically a 1 mile loop of good pavement. An accurate 10 K will be measured off.
The race was Vince from Village Cycle's idea. I have been talking to him and convinced him that it should be a specific distance and not a crit. Skaters do not like crits. Tommy is going to be there to help from a skaters point of view. I am unfortunately going to be out of town.........Cale"

My sister actually works for Vince, so if you need more info I can ask her to find out.

See updated flyer here.

They need to update the flyer on their website. As of this morning, it still said 30min +1. I don't mind a crit style race, it would be easier. However, I can understand how that wouldn't be very good for rec skaters who want a specific distance to skate. Should be a little over 6 laps. I am going to try to make it if possible. I am still working out the schedule for that day.

Anyone know what the turn points will be like on this course?

Thanks for letting us know about that, Tom. I shall be there with a personal goal of busting through the elusive 30 minute time barrier!

Hopefully the turnout will be great enough to make the organizers believe that including skaters in their race was the smartest thing they ever did!

See you all there!

As hard as I try, it doesn't look like this is going to work for me. I am bummed. I really wanted to break my 10k personal record. Don't know if that would be possible since I had the benefit of a great pace line and good hills. This would have been a good course for the Bont Black Ops in 87a.

Armadillo, the course is right around 0.6 miles. I don't know what the layout is supposed to be, but the guy on my team that has been out there says it is just a little over 10 laps for a 10k. Pavement is supposed to be in great condition. The course is set up in a commercial/manufacturing subdivision.

I will be there if I can, but that doesn't look like it will work at the moment.

I did a little searching and here's what I found: The ABR flyer says it's a 1 mile course but doesn't post a map. ABD has races in the same park on Memorial Day and posts maps of 3 courses.. north course .6 mile, south course .7 mile, and combined course 1.6 mile. LINK HERE

If the ABR course is 1 mile, my guess is that the south course is cut out of the combined course which looks like it would be just under a mile. Could be wrong though.

Weather is looking good for start time.

Pretty nice race this morning, ended up being alot hotter than i expected. I didnt really push hard, these short races arent really my thing, 6 miles is usually the point where im just getting into a race, i think me and my little group finished right around the 21 minutes, 30 second mark. Still it was fun to do something a little different to what we normally do on the weekends.

I think a total of 27 skaters took part, most of them were team Rainbo, i think maybe 4 or 5 were not.

My wife and I were 2 of the non-Rainbow skaters in attendance. It was a nice little race. I would enjoy attending more of them in the area.

Going by my GPS and using Google Earth, I found the the course was 1.05k per lap. Total race distance was 10.5k. Steve Meisinger won the race in 18-something. I got 2nd with 19min59sec (going by my video footage). I haven't been skating much lately so Stevo's pace was more than I could handle. I will post video if it looks decent.

Stevo is a beast. Kufman, kudos for keeping up with him. Sub-20 minute is a great pace. I am sorry I missed this race. I hope we get a couple of more in the future, if not this year than next. Hopefully I won't have schedule conflicts in the future. Kufman, looking forward to the video if you post it.

As it turned out, I wasn't able to make it and am pretty bummed out. Even more so after watching that video because I know I would have loved this race. On the bright side, the fact that so many skaters showed up on such short notice just might get other bike and running race organizers considering adding skating to their events.

My new weight loss method. Watch video 10-15 min after lunch, get sea sick, toss lunch, save 600 or so cal.
Other then that, nice video. Looks like a nice road.
We used to have one here with a bike race until it rained one year and a few crashed. Seems the bikers couldn't stand seeing the blood. Never ask us back.
Or maybe the times where to close to the bikes times.
