Default ** Naomi Grigg San Francisco Freestyle Slalom Retreat (June 18-22, 2012) **

IMPROVE YER SLALOM AWESOME.

Former World #3-ranked slalom competitor/instructor/coach Naomi Grigg has been pried from her new hometown of Seattle and a self-imposed travel ban to reprise her popular week-long Freestyle Slalom Retreat in San Francisco, June 18-22 (Mon-Fri), 2012.

This will be I think her 3rd Retreat on the awesome skating surface at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It is being held the week immediately BEFORE "BattleSF - USFSA West Coast Championships" (June 23-24), so you can use your new-found slalom awesomeness to take part in the Slalom competition the weekend after, or just hang out with and learn from the other competitors.

As a rider who basically learned how to slalom at Naomi's workshops and Retreats, I've always been happy to help get the word out when one is coming up. By now, I'm sure you've tired of skipping over my rambling dribble on your way to the latest bearing or wheel forum thread. But, if you have just woken from an extended coma or only recently acquired the Internets, feel free to check out this Pictoral Review of Naomi's Past Miami Slalom Retreats (you can skip all the words at the top to the photos near the end).

The layout of Naomi's San Francisco Retreat is very similar to the Miami one:

Retreat Details:
=============
1) Max 10 students. Naomi's instruction is tailored to each
student's needs and goals
. Her Retreat generally has a mix
of complete slalom beginners to seasoned pros.

2) 4 days skating, one rest day off (you'll need it)

3) Each intensive work day includes:
a) 3 skating sessions with breaks in between
b) 1 theory session (off skates)
c) group lunch at nearby restaurant
d) one-on-one video review with Naomi around dinner back at
the hostel

4) Retreat participants all stay/hang out at hostel when not skating

5) We try to control costs by sharing rooms in the hostel (includes free
breakfast), and sharing cooking duties/grocery costs for the
evening meal.

6) Cost of Retreat = $400 (plus accomodations, food, etc)

You'll be amazed at how much you're freestyle skating can improve in only a week, and how much fun you'll have while doing it.

Interested? More information and registration details at Naomi's Web site:

Luckily, Irish slalom skater Sinead H. has given me permission to use some of her photos of Naomi's San Francisco Retreat from a couple years back.

Not as complete as the "Pictoral Review" link above, but it'll you give you some idea of what to expect.

Default Perfect, except time isn't going to work

Was interested (on all levels) but June 18-22 We will have my wife's sister's children staying with us so a one week camp is out. If I am in the city (work or other activity) I may drop by and watch you guys - sure it will be great. Hope you have a great time sorry it happens to be the time where I am on Uncle Summer Camp duty. *positive note, they are brining their little skates I bought them and we are going to take them so I guess not all is lost. *I could use some serious practice though

Just a few more weeks until the slalom Retreat. Remember that the US West Coast Slalom Championships will be held the (adjacent) following weekend, so you could learn some new skills and apply them at the slalom battle.

Or you could just do the Retreat. Or you could just do the competition. Either way, hope to see ya'll out in San Francisco in June!
