Depends also on the use. Outside of the US quad speed skating is mainly an outdoor activity - long distances (marathons etc.). E.g. no toe stops, (short) forward mount, large diameter wheels (> 70 mm).

These are my best & lightest quad speed skates, built primarily for indoor, but also outdoor, racing. Laser slider 15 kingpin angle plate with all steel replaced with Ti & Al parts; Pele Trinity soccer shoes; 3/32" DragonPlate carbon fiber laminate sole upgrade; Bont 167 microbearings; RB Turbo 92A wheels; 100% glue mounted.

The high deck height afforded by the Slider plate design allows this build to handle a wide range of wheel sizes up to 80mm. I should have gone with the slimmer "SL" version of the Trinity shoe, which accounts for the wide velcro strap on the forefoot; blue wheels are 76mm Zombie Hawgs, narrowed to hub flush on both sides; titanium axles; 7075 aluminum custom kingpins with no external threading except at action nut end.
