Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Default New Skates

Hey doc im new to the bunch as you can see. i would love to have you build my skates in a few weeks. I used to skate on 595s and heavy sure grip classics, it was the only thing that seemed to take the abuse back then. that being said i would like to move into a lighter plate possibly a roll line navigator. and as far as boots go i love the style of 595s but i have a pretty wide foot wondering if 911 would be better, ive never seen them in person. any suggestions would be great thanks.

Cool New Sk8s

Hey Doc I'm new to the bunch as you can see. I would love to have you build my skates in a few weeks.

A few weeks is about right. I am booked till late Feb...

I used to skate on 595s and heavy sure grip classics, it was the only thing that seemed to take the abuse back then.

What other plates did you have problems with? There is nothing particularly remarkable about the Classic....other than the stiff suspension. Were you over-tightening your king pins?

That being said I would like to move into a lighter plate possibly a Roll Line Navigator.

That is a bit lighter.......And FAR more responsive when set up correctly.

and as far as boots go I love the style of 595s but I have a pretty wide foot wondering if 911 would be better, I've never seen them in person. Any suggestions would be great thanks.

I have 2 recommendations for wide feet. On the lower cost end, a Vanilla boot seems to be wider in front than the Riedells. The other option is get some Riedells made wide. It costs more but is worth the extra money if you sk8 a lot. Another option (NOT recommended) is get bigger boots.
