I'd like to give my impression of the link backs and advertisements for a few folks skate shops. Being new to the forum it gave me a fairly clear impression of who might be trust worthy to make purchases from which I find very helpful. Sure it has to be buyer beware but when I see some of the senior members around here recommending this or that person I saw it as a good thing.

Is the goal to keep this forum more pristine and less filled with etailers and brick and mortar shop and rink folk from profiting off the traffic and turning forum members into their customers? I can see the pros and cons of that and get it.

If it is a bandwidth issue as I see some mentioning bandwidth has never been more affordable. Banner adds and linkbacks can be a great way to gain some revenue and have the skateshops essentially pay to play and be allowed to be listed in a signature.

I don't think it is unethical to go that route when what I am sure will happen is the skate shop folks who need to generate business will always look for the loop hole to gain some traffic and customers which isn't really a bad thing considering we all want to see the sport grow and grow.

Just my two sense

RJ

You were probably over-thinking it. Something I have never been guilty of.

I personally don't care if the signatures are never turned on. It was all getting a little commercial for my taste too, and that's nothing against those trying to make a living in hard times though.

I don't care to see someone's whole skate collection in their every post either. We quad skaters who are on here a lot, all have a pretty good idea of whose got what, who wears what size, and who likes this or that anyway.

Default Same Problem as Shakespear-ean-ship Smartin

Hi Kathie

First off I think you are on the right path.

When I clicked on your links I got the same result that Smartin reported. SO Your good signature examples aren't working on my Internet Browser and I have no foggie of these best of examples. I am guessing, based on your and our history, you are right yet I can't verify.

Yours in Skating, MA/NY Skating Dave

Edit-01: Adding Internet Browser and some other stuff missed

I didn't mean to confuse everybody with my sample signatures. Sorry about that! Here's another try and how people could use their 3 signature lines:

SAMPLE #1
- Kathie

SAMPLE #2

SAMPLE #3
- Kathie Fry, MyTitle
- MyWebSiteName
- MyWebSiteAddress

Instead of a dash or an underbar in the above examples you could use an asterisk (*) a squiggle (~) or any other askii character. (What's the official name of that squiggly thing anyway?)

Just a few ideas...

<< Is the goal to keep this forum more pristine? >>

We want to keep advertising in the advertising subforums and out of our other forums. We don't want an ad to appear in our forum everytime a person makes a post.

it is the number sign or some call it a hash mark

The "pound sign" is the symbol for a British Pound ""

Default Signatures Are Turned Back On

OK, forum signatures have been turned back on now. I will strip the BB code (bulletin board formatting code) out of everybody's signatures as I have a chance to do it, but if your signature looks strange all of a sudden, or has disappeared, please edit it to comply with our new guidelines.

It's not called "the little tic-tac-toe thingy"?

Yours *is* showing A-Town. That's it! You can edit it to add your URL under your skate shop name if you like, but no more zillion line signatures please.

Thanks Kathie!

Although it is sad to see the demise of the official "Puggles Magenta" from the signatures.
