Default Chicagoland Inline Marathon

January 1 Update: The web site is http://www.chicagoinlinemarathon.com/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Rainbo Warriors! Are you guys affiliated with the Chicagoland Inline? Can any of you tell us when the Chicagoland Inline Marathon web site will be available for 2009? At the moment, the site says "it's coming.... July 25 2008."

Thanks,

Don Patton

Write Cale or Major, they would for sure have details!

Default Upper Midwest 2009 outdoor races TENTATIVE

For one place, it's on the Upper Midwest list on another thread in this forum. But that doesn't mean much unless the organizers say.

Major is the guy in charge of the site. But yes we will be running it again this year. I am not sure of the exact date yet but I'm sure Greg will post it when we know.

Pete (the meet director) just announced that the race would be on July 26. Details to follow "on January 1st".

Dang...that is pretty disapointing. There is a cycling race in Chicago on that same day. Last year it worked out where the skating race was Saturday and the bike race was Sunday so I was able to do both. I wonder if there is a reason he is switching days.

Does anyone know if it will be the same course as last year?

I tried to use the contact info (email) and it bounced.

Need Hotel detail (address) and also surrounding hotels,
directions from Midway (southwest does not fly into O'hare)
and anything else a person traveling from 900 miles to race needs to know

I suspect that this info will be added at some point...
But I'm ready to register, and book a hotel (in a few days)

Also the registration page has all the events as 8/xx rather than 7/xx
I'm sure this is typo.

Ready to represent Austin Tx!!!
and any event that is being held in Hoffman Estates, cannot be all that bad
Considereing Hoffmann my last name (except I use two Ns instead of one)

Ready to reaname it Hoffmonster Estates....

I remember hearing they want to improve the course. They didn't get a permit last year that would have added a longer straightaway section and probably broken up the massive lead pack.

Here's the course:

Hoffmonster has received at least some information to answer his questions, and perhaps will post that info for others. Anyone else with questions and email problems can call the contact phone # listed on the event site.

It's the same location as last year, but it's more of an extended course like we wanted to do last year, so less laps, only 3.

I had a great time the past two years in Chicago and this year sounds like the best yet. It's nice to be able to put on your skates right at your hotel and roll down to the course. From what I remember it was a pretty nice hotel too.

I got some info from Wondergirl on another hotel.
but I was looking for something a bit simpler, like the actual address of the host hotel or a phone number maybe, which cannot be found anywhere on the site. Before I reserve a room, I want to make sure I have the right hotel.

The site is lacking any kind of travel info other than driving directions to the address of the event, which is not the host hotel.
it just says it's there on the right???

I guess if you live in the area the site is cool, but if you're traveling from
very far away, it leaves much to be desired.

I don't want to sound to harsh here
the site is very pretty and all, but is not all that useful to travellers.

One of my favorites was a race site that didn't tell anywhere what STATE it was in, or where the race started. Beautiful site, "come on down and race", very friendly, but you had to already know exactly where it was. I guess it keeps out undesirables like me. :-)

Disclaimer: This is not directed at any specific event of any particular sport, web site, thesis paper, and etcetera.

Though I feel event promoters should take note of this topic that has been hit upon.

I've been frustrated more times than I can count without taking my skates off when it comes to needed information for events. Not to mention color choices, font choices and sizes, grammar and spelling butchering that make my eyes bleed... oh wait... I took creative spelling. Casual speak, texting, friend communications, forums, etc is one thing, but I'm amazed how many folks expect to be taken seriously when they write professional material that “sloppy” is too polite a word to use. Oh some of the resumes I’ve seen… Then again such problems keep me well employed.

When time and patience are a factor all sorts of things can add to a loss here and there of participants. Kind of like skating... the stubborn and determined prevail. With that said I'm also glad I've never had to take on the job of setting up an event web site. I'm starting to know that skater Jeff Adams ought to pimp himself that way as an event website designer in addition to being a pro photographer. The hard part is an event that can pay or willing to pay what a good designer deserves and can afford to live off of. Kind of one of those things... you know you did a good job if no one takes great notice of your work. Screw up and you'll hear about it. But I'm not saying anything we all don't already know.

The hotel closest and skating distance to the course is a Hilton Garden Inn.

http://www.hiltongardeninn.com/en/gi...tyhocn=CHIHEGI

The packet pick-up and expo were here last year. I believe there was an event discount set up for room rates. I had connections to another chain and stayed just a few miles away in Schaumburg for about 1/4 the price.
