It's on Allen Parkway, just west of downtown.

I will be there again, handing out water, and anything else I can help with, as long as it's in the shade. Hope to meet some of you fine folks there.

Looks like it's going to be nice weather, and pre-registration is still open with the facebook discount. Y'all come on down so I don't have to skate by myself.

I'll be there trying my best to keep the Simmons guys in sight
![]() Need to get up early to drive up to BWI, but it's a direct flight. It's so much easier getting up for vacation than for work! |

I'll be in Houston, but I'm doing Tour De Donut instead.
Lots of speed skaters will be doing this event. It's for a good cause. Make A Wish Foundation www.tourdedonut.com I just cannot say no to this one. |

If you're coming to Houston this weekend, you have the opportunity to participate in the Houston Inline Marathon Weekend, which is a true skating event created by skaters, for skaters, on a volunteer basis, and which takes place right in the heart of downtown Houston... or you can instead support a bike event forty miles west of town, the organizers of which probably don't even care whether skaters participate.
I hope you'll consider supporting the marathon. It's a constant struggle to get participation numbers up high enough to have enough revenue to be able to make the event happen. The race venue, being in the heart of town, is very desirable, but also very expensive to obtain. The Tour de Donut is a bicycling event that has roughly a thousand participants without any regard to skaters, and they don't close any roads so their costs are very low, especially on a per-participant basis. There are numerous similar bike events year-round on those same roads near Katy, so if you want to skate out there, you have plenty of other opportunities. In contrast, the Houston IM is one of only two chances you get each year to skate an inline marathon event anywhere in the entire state of Texas — or even one or two states away, for that matter. If you like having inline marathons in Texas, you've got to support them. Such events live or die on the basis of skater participation. (Just ask the hardworking volunteers who tried to get the Showdown 'N Cowtown off the ground this year — creating an outdoor skating marathon ain't easy, folks.) I assure you, you'll have lots of fun with the enthusiastic skaters downtown this weekend. If you don't feel like racing, you can always just do our Fun Skate, and/or volunteer at the event. (And if you crave donuts, I'll be happy to buy you a boxful. =) If you like having skating events to participate in, then please support them with the same passion shown by those who invest the time, love, and treasure to create them for you. Cheers, ~ Justin Last edited by jmac; November 2nd, 2009 at 07:39 PM. |

Sounds valid, but this particular cause is more important to me at this time.
I'm not saying that everyone else should do it. Just that I'm going to be out there this time. Last edited by Art G; October 31st, 2009 at 08:40 PM. |

And you also Bill!
I'm sure we'll get to race together again at least a few times in the coming year. I do get out that way a few times a year for cycling anyways, so maybe we can grab a meal and a brew sometime. |
