Default Request for Features

Kathie,

I'm a member on a couple other forums that use the same software you're using. Some enable the ability to change the little message under your avatar.

Also, the physical size of the avatars (I've seen a max of 200px wide x 150px high) and the profile pictures (I've seen a max of 640px wide x 480px high), as well as the file sizes of both can be increased (I've seen a max of 100KB for avatars and 250KB for profile pics). I really miss using the animated avatar I had with both my quad and inlines skates alternating.

Are these possible options that you can change? I'm not sure what your storage space is like, but if the forum has a lot of space, you might consider it.

Also, 3 of the forums I use have supporter options. A supporter is someone who PayPal's you a flat fee, say $5-$10 annually to help offset the cost of the forum. These supporters get options enabled for their profiles that non-supporting members don't get, say like the list above that I mentioned. They also get a little tag near their avatar that shows that they're a forum supporter. Here's a good example of one of my posts on one of the forums I support, note the area around my avatar: Sample Forum

Just some things to think about. I know you spend a lot of time administering the forum and your other web sites and it's very much appreciated.

I'll look into the possibility of adding some of those features. We do have limited space for uploaded images in the forum, but I don't remember your animated image being all that large. What are the dimensions and file size of that image?

I don't want to charge people for visiting this forum, or even for extra features, but I will look into adding some of the features you mentioned. By the way one way people *can* support us is by distributing our forum business cards to skaters you think might like to join our discussions (the cards are free... anyone can request a supply by sending email to kathiefry@skatelog.com).

Unfortunately I can't see that page, because I'm not registered. Is there a sample post in a different forum you can show us?

I believe it was 100px wide x ??px high. File size was under 100KB. It was about the max that the previous forum software was set at.

OK, I figured out how to add one of the requested new features. Registered users can now give themselves a custom title, up to 25 characters, instead of the junior member, member, and senior member defaults. 25 maximum characters is the default, but I can make it larger if anyone needs more characters.

Who wants to be first to give themselves a cool title?

I forgot to tell people how to give themselves a custom title. Here's how:

1. Select "User CP" (User Control Panel) from the blue-gray bar at the top of the page.

2. Select "Edit Profile"

3. Enter your new title in the "Custom User Title" box

That's it!

Poor Motosk8ter... it looks like his recent promotion to Senior Member has now lost it's prestige. Although it's hard for me to feel too sad for him right now; I just got promoted to upper management!

Naw ROK, I earned my promotion! I did it the hard way. John Wayne would have been proud if he had skated. Now I have to admit there is genius behind it ! Phil
