always nice how one bad apple always starts this conversation and then could ruin it for everyone

No, I do not agree. There should be feedback. The point of the forum is information and communication. Not just good stuff. Good and bad.

If member x said something odd, I would probably believe it. I would verify it though.

If member y said it was noon and the sun is shining, I would go to a window to check first, because I think member y is a lunatic.

If some lunatic is trashing a member you might know, or are considering doing business with, their rants will not have much weight.

The problem is not the for sale section. It is not that people are crooks. The problem is the current state of the for sale section, no feedback.

I think its pretty clear that Kathie has stated she is not going to do this. But if people keep bringing it up, she is going to be doing option B which is just delete it.

You'd really have to have a very active moderator on just for that section.

adding a feedback system to a php board is just a few clicks away. so that wouldnt be all that hard to do.

The big problem we had, when we allowed feedback, was buyers trashing each other, or asking their friends to trash their competition. It caused HUGE flame wars that got very ugly and totally out of control. We are not going back there again.

You'd need someone to monitor it for validity and accuracy. Someone said up near the start of this that people have multiple user accounts. All they would have to do is keep saying "Hey I bought this from me..." and +1 feedback. Then when another $500 deal goes south... its not different than oh that person has 3000+ posts.

EDIT: and what she said....

Im puzzled at your statement Kathie.. That I wouldnt want to sell.. buy or trade here.. on the contrary.. I probably am one of the more active.. sellers.. buyers.. traders.. and brokers on this board.. hmm curious you would say that

Reguardless.. I could care less if the section stays open.. or closes.. everyone knows as well as I... finding that part.. wheel.. plate..etc.. is just a post away..

I just would hate to think that Skatelog would become a haven for deadbeat buyers/sellers .. knowing that no one would be allowed to call them out on here.. and they could/would have a field day with that tidbit of info... while we all sit here gagged.. and not allowed to say anything.

Giggles.. ya.. me gagged...*chortle*..

The main forums are for questions, answers, and sharing. (insert something cuddly here: )

Let the feedback forums be separate, and let them be hell on earth, if that is the way they trend. JUST KEEP THE CRAP AWAY FROM THE NORMAL FORUM AREAS.

You are reminding me of another problem we had with feedback... buyers giving themselves fake pats on the back, either by creating several user names or asking their family and friends to post "atta boys" for them. The whole feedback thing was pain in the neck that was impossible to manage fairly.

WEll then.. wouldnt it be the moderators job to police those individuals that were being the issue.. vs. ..

OR.. can this be done?

Just have a rating.. 1 for poor.. and 5 for excellent..

No verbal comments.. just a number score... and thats it.. can that be created?

No. DON'T police it. Put up a disclaimer to the section, not moderated. People with a good voice will be heard, and idiots can be ignored.

I plead with you to NOT close the For Sale forum. I actually fear that my entire skating experience will suffer if you do....because of this forum and the overwhelming amount of great to buy from people involved on this site I've been able to try all sorts of wheels/plates/boots etc. that I would've never had the opportunity to try otherwise (buying new is too expensive and don't even get me started about trying to win an ebay auction without the use of sniper software). I believe that we're blowing an isolated (though offensive and criminal) case out of the water here.

8-Ball, I only said that because you think it is unfair that disputes must be handled privately. You are very welcome to keeping buying and selling here, as long as the forums remain open.

I will say this and i will bet a skate set up on it

that if the Classifieds are shut down the already dying quad section will be like a ghost town

this has already been thrown around before and back then many of the now lost senior members made it clear without the classifieds SL is almost well........

lets just say for chatting purposes facebook fills the bill just as well

odd, on my boards noone can give themselves any "pats on the back" only other users, never self. i suppose nothing stops someone asking for positive feedback, but since registration here is by application...you can quickly sniff out frauds joining and just spamming positives for members/friends. plus you can set the frequency of feedback. one a day is standard, but it can be moved up or down to suit the application.

i agree with all except the isolated case statement

the problem is the people who hasnt been here that long has no idea the deadbeat in question

has been called up on this 4 times that i know of yes i said 4 times either by very slow turn around times or well........ you know the rest of the story

and had she been banned we would be 2 victims less then before and yes i am a victim of this unnamed person

You have got to be kidding Randy. This forum has more then a quarter of a million posts. Only a miniscule percent of those posts are in the buying and selling forums.

I would hate to see the buy and sale section closed on here, and have to buy and sale everything from ebay. There is no fee to sale here. Plus it's nice to know when your stuff leaves you to go live with another member, it goes to a good home.

I guess if you use Paypal for all your transactions, and open up a case if you have an issue before the expiration date, your as safe as you will be dealing with anyone over the internet.

If we can't have a feedback forum, and someone burns someone else; we could always spread the word through PM's like someone said earlier. You tell your friends, they tell their friends and so on.

I have bought and sold quite a few things here and only had an issue with one member, and I actually bought that item off his website.
