Default Skating again after an injury and surgery

Hi everyone,

About two months ago, I tore the ligament in my left ankle while inline skating. As a result, it didn't hold the tendon in place properly and I had to go for an op to fix it.

It's been a month since I did the surgery. And I'm off the boot/cast, finally.

I would really love to go back to inline skating. I have another two months of physio/rehab to go.

Would like to hear from fellow skaters who went back to the sport after a serious injury or op.

How long did it take? What precautions did you take? Did the injury occur again? How did it feel?

Thanks much.

I'd offer some sane advice about staying off of it and letting it blah blah blah...

But that would be hypocritical of me. We roll like this.

That's my bud. He skated that busted wrist before the cast went on like an idiot. I'm not much better tho. Never had surgery, but needed it.

Good luck!

I can't say it was a serious injury, but I sprained my ankle pretty bad in 2011. I stayed off of the foot entirely for 3 to 4 weeks, then off skates, doing a lot of very gentle balance strengthening work (standing on one foot), then very tentatively in high cut boots for a week or two before going back to my low cut speed boots. Seemed to work out well. WM_B broke his ankle and tracked his recovery leading to racing the NorthShore marathon that year. I think his posts are around here somewhere. He is also recovering from hip surgery from an indoor skating fall where he hit the wall. His hip injury required surgery. Check the speed skating forum for more on that.
