Hey, inliners check this one out...http://www.usopeninline.com/

There will be events for "artistic" skating with PROPS!! (Firefly LOVES props!!) Cool!

Also an "improv" event. (Where you hear a peice of music during warm up and have to make up a routine on the spot). Best routine wins. Extra cool!

Smile U.S. Open Inline Forms are posted

In case you don't monitor the other group you can go to the Artistic Inline Forum and get the info.

Look for the new event -- a Survival Event -- Designed to be fun and team-building. The rules are being clarified also so stay tuned in case you want more details. As far as we know, it has never been done by anyone.

Just much to do with pleasure. We will be posting updates often so let us know any clarifications that might be needed.

Mary Lu is the Assistant Meet Director!!

We are looking for a fun competition for everyone.

Yes, I willl be there. It is the first time I'm competiting on roller since....1986!! Yikes!! I am also helping the planning committee. (Several of the "fun" events like improv are based on ISI (ice) competition events. I used to skate ISI tract when I skated ice.) Hoping to see a lot of inline skaters there!! Would love to meet you!! (But can see by your profile that you live a little far away from Chicago).

Wellington, New Zealand to Chicago, Illinois, United States:

8345 miles (13429 km) (7251 nautical miles)

Nothing that a 20-hour plane trip wouldn't fix....The problem will be that the airline would probably like us to pay the fare.

Sponsorship is less likely in these uncertain times, I guess. Still, there's always the lottery. Someone has to win, right?

Firefly LOVES the Lottery. Play all the time....Win Nothing. Never. Nada. BAD LOTTERY!!!
(Wish I still had all the $ I spent on the tickets, could afford new skates, new costumes, maybe new car... (sigh) Possibly trip to New Zealand, Australlia, Europe etc. Always wanted to travel. Never got anywhere except Canada (It's only an hour away.) It was nice (Niagara Falls.) Lots of water. LOTS!! BIG FALLS!! BIG!! There are casinos. Same problem as lottery. Firefly likes roulette. Roulette doesn't like Firefly.
But maybe you will have better luck.....Like you said somebody has to win. Right?

But back to Inline Open.....Love the idea that there will be "fun" events as well as "regular" stuff (SP, LP).... Since this is only inline (sorry, no quad events), we need as many skaters as possible. Hope a lot of the inliners can make it.

Smile Please spread the word and link fix

Some of you may have had a connection problem for the .pdf. The correct link is:

http://usinlinefigureskating.com/uso...try_Form_4.pdf

I fixed it. The problem was some hidden html code. I did test it --honest
!-{ Go Figure.

Hopefully next year we can expand the events to include many more different inline events. I think they would build on each other. Let's make it a fun memorable time. We will need help.

So far there is interest from skaters in France, Germany, Singapore, India, New Zealand and Iran (If the U.S. can get the travel situation fixed ;-=} Anyone have a direct line to the new President?

Joe

Smile U.S. Open Inline Updates Tuesday, Feb 3, 2009

There are some updates on the website.
- Additional Hotels - You need to reserve rooms by Mar 1 for the best rates, use USA Skate Center as the code. Otherwise you can try USAROL as the code after that date and compare prices.
- Nearby practice rinks, both roller and ice
- Tentative schedule
- Updated info that props are allowed on both Show and Artistic.
- Renamed the .pdf file to fullentryform.pdf
- Put link on website and in doc for the .pdf

This s a new competition and so there be updates. Please let us know anything that needs clarification.

The .pdf document is big, 50 pages, but the source material is over 1000 pages of documents, so we just pulled out the best and put it in one place to save time for skaters and coaches;-} At least it's indexed. How many competition forms have a Table of Contents?

We'll have the Cliff Notes version as soon as we can reasonably do it.

Joe

Smile Updates and News - Feb. 9, 2009

!Look at the new look at usopeninline.com!

- If you have download problems let me know. It was done in Publisher, which I don't care for, but is quick and dirty. I have Dreamweaver, but need time to learn it. They also changed somewhat from CS3 to CS4. Publisher is now supposed to get rid of junk. I have an 18 meg download speed, so I can't judge speed very well.

- Due to popular demand, created a two page short entry form for people that just want to enter. It is on the forms page. Everything is still in the full entry form.

- Broke out all the forms on separate links in addition. They will be .pdf editable forms as soon I feel I don't need any sleep ;-)

- Let me know your comments and anything that might not be clear or needs to be added.

- There will be more breakouts and additions. We are waiting for the slalom/freestyle rules.

- Nick Perna has confirmed his participation for three days. You can contact him for private lessons at nicpicsk8@aol.com.

- Jo Ann Schneider Ferris has also tentatively agreed to come. She is the author of "How to Jump and Spin on In-line Skates"

- PIC skates will be exhibiting and participating and will be a sponsor. See the sponsors form if you want to sponsor.

- Carlesa Williams has tentatively committed to attending with her skaters and doing a booth for Snow White skates.

No clue yet. We need to look at numbers first. But we will tape it for sure!

Smile Video

Hopefully we can also sell the DVDs of the event. Our discussion in the early stages involved the sale of the DVDs with profits going to support Inline Figure Skating. I own a part-time video production company and Mary Lu does the same type of thing. So we have the talent. I'm on the local community television staff so we have plenty of help also.

I'll probably do the Great Lakes Regionals also. My website is http://flyingcamelproductions.comj. I want to put the DVDs up there so look for the link eventually.

Smile Website update Feb. 16, 2009

The forms have been broken out on the website usopeninline.com as well as several pages for the various events. This is a work in progress, but hopefully covers most topics.

You can still download the fullentryform.pdf with everything in one package including rules, forms and competition site info.

There is an issue with some graphics in Firefox because Publisher 2003retains the original file location and doesn't allow replacing the file but the content is good and readable. Publisher is not the best, but it is quick for me. Dreamweaver is on my agenda.

Be sure to allow links to be forwarded in your browser or security software or at least add usinlinefigureskating.org and usopeninline.com to your safe list otherwise you might have a problem. Some browsers think the site is trying to run ActiveX, which was not part of the design, but you might need to allow ActiveX or at least set your browser so you get prompted.

We'd love to be there, but unless that lottery pays off for us too, we won't be able to make it. Maybe plans for making it a little closer for us on the west coast next year??

Default Open Will Travel

I know Joe plans for it to move around the country. But I think it is going to be in Chicago for the first year or so. (This year and I think next year.) But, yes, he does envision it moving to different states across the USA. We'll see you when we get to California!!

Smile Move around the country

It would probably be in the Chicago area next year. We had a lot of hurdles to overcome this year and so would like a full year to get things settled. But if we get an offer we can't refuse then it would be different.

The thinking is to move it between the East, Midwest and West coasts. This is the advantage of having an organization sponsor the competition as opposed to a rink.

There is also the possibility of putting it out to bid which might be advantageous if we have a good turnout this year. Then the winning bid can do take care of a lot of the local site work.

Smile Website Updated and Mostly Complete

The website http://usopeninline.com is pretty much complete with all the info along with a short entry form and a full entry form with all the details and relevant rules in one .pdf file. Unfortunately it is best read with IE7 due to Publisher's quirks, the quickest tool available right now. We can use a webmaster for next year if there are volunteers.

If you can't compete please join us for the Seminar or just to watch. Bring your skates because we'll be doing some of the seminars on the floor. We will have a limited supply of free inline figure skate loaners courtesy of PIC Skate. Send us your size if you are interested and we can see what's available or try to get it sent here.

You also book some private lesson time with Nick Perna at nicpicsk8@aol.com among other coaches that specialize in inline figure skating. We can add a coaches list of people willing to do private lessons. Just send me an email and I'll post your contact info.

We posted the Slalom/Freestyle rules and will use WSSA rules. The judge will be Megan McIntosh among others. I was told she is a National Champion. We have some skaters that may be coming from overseas and can judge also.

We'll also have a social event Saturday night. I'm leaning towards a local Irish Pub with live music. I can also handle a good crowd at my house. It is pretty big. You can join us just for the party if you like. Check the website for costs.
