Does anyone know why??? I just saw that Eva Rodansky signed up recently, and she's in my age group But, that's ok - gives me a reason to train harder

Look again, it really has always been the Eddy show-except in '98 when the pace motorcycle took the lead pack off the course by mistake... D'OH!!!
Bye Eddy, see you in 20 minutes, seriously, that sucks.

make sure you all visit the Duraskater ranking

edit: who is eva rodansky? The girl to watch in your age group, near as I can tell, is Erica O'Connor. She just finished 5th in NY100k.

Speedy -- Re: duraskater -- You telling us something

I just looked up the rest of the years. It looks like Eddy likes even years...1990, 1992, 1994, 1996...

Aug 30 -- AM
Where: Seahawk stadium parking lot
What: drills
Conditions: Overcast, 55F, 8MPH, wet

Back to drills. I'm finding new muscles in my calves that I did not know existed. The path that the auto demo took was still visible so I skated it. 0.28 miles in 1:18 for an average of 12.7. Max speed 14.7. HR 155. There were only two straights the rest were all technical turns. I would have enjoyed it more if it had been dry.

Tonight, 5 miles at Evergreen followed by some beating people up with a stick.

Eva Rodansky is/was a LT ice skater. She has a really cool blog that explored the dark under belly of US Speedskating, their NGB.

Here's three of the four laps on the hill loop, gless yielded the fourth lap to his new boots. I've already secured two riders for next week to assure that there is no lollygagging. I can feel the burn already.

You've secured two riders? It sounds like you went down to the "Livery Stable" on main street.

"Eustis, I'll be needin' two riders next week. Make 'em tall and athletic, say near 'bout 6' 7" tall. Volleyball players, preferably. I'll bring 'em back cold, wet and hungry. Ya hear me, Eustis?"

Ouch. Problades. Bad memories. I like to think that things turn out the way that they do for a reason. The K2s are working out just fine and it feels like it was just meant to be that way.

Congratulations on your "Senior Member" status, btw. It was nice of Kathie to give us something to shoot for with the posts. I'm like a rat in a maze now. Got to get that piece of cheese.

Aug 30 -- PM
Where: Evergreen rotary park
What: 5 consistent miles
Conditions: Mostly cloudy, 64F, 10MPH, mostly dry

5 miles in 23:28 for an average of 12.6. Max speed 18.7. Avg HR 159. Max HR 174. Worst mile 4:47/12.5@160. Best mile 4:37/13.0@166.

There were a lot of dog walkers out. At one point I had three sets of them to pass ever lap and they were about 30ft apart

Had a good time wacking people with sticks. It was the old fogy brigade (of which I am the youngest) and we had a visiting fighter who is in his early 20s so I had to fight him alot. I'll have a couple of good bruises tomorrow, and they will not impair my skating.

Aug 31 -- AM

Where: Seattle waterfront, Myrtle Edwards park and pier 91 bike path
What: Skating for skating
Conditions: Clear, 57F, 4MPH, dry

9.91 miles in 53:21 for an average of 11.1. Max speed 25.4. Max HR 177. Avg HR 150. Best mile 3:39/16.4@170bpm. Worst mile 6:28/9.3@129.

For a few moments it felt like everything was clicking and I could skate at 16mph with no effort what so ever.

Thur. 08-31 AM: Back to the McDevelopment for the usual four 5.6mi laps. Did a little better than Tues; 22.4mi in 2hr 4min for 10.83 mph.

Lap Stats
1) 30m / 11.2mph
2) 31m / 10.83mph
3) 30m / 11.2mph (probably stole 59 sec. from lap 4)
4) 33m / 10.83mph

Not too impressive 'till I recalled that mvirtue's Garmin says there's a 480 ft. elevation change every 5.6mi lap.

PM: Session skate...quads only.

It's on a2a.net, but he doesn't have a skater's record linked: you have to get it from the year he skated. I think you need to finish one get on the skater list.

Considering how much a DNF in a little nothing event last year messed up my head, I can see why they avoid it.

8/31 : Intervals in the niegborhood. 90 sec on/30 sec off, 8 rep.
Speeds: 12 (uphill) 6 reps at 15 mph, and 1 at 21 mph (back down the hill.
It's hard to keep the HR up heading downhill. (max speed "in excess of" 30 mph) 175 HR at the end of rep, 165 at start, for avg hr of 167.

Glenn, I'm impressed without the change in elevation. You rock!

I'm really curious about what the next "stage/level" is going to be. Where is the cut-off? What is the title?

When I'm a "Senior" poster, will I still be offending someone about every 10 posts? When will I have wisdom?

Have a killer skate on Saturday! Hope you are feeling better, too.

8/31
Thirty thin minutes thumping the threadmill. Max woke up from his nap before I could finish. Better than nothing. The better half is in Chicago on business and its killing me because the weather is perfect for skating. Low humidity and cool temps.
