Default A2A 2008 Results and Race Reports

Kind of a weird title, but since the first cancellation in '05, we regulars start biting our nails right about now. It has been confirmed by Scott Jones and Henry Zuver that the event will happen this year for sure. If you have not registered yet and are planning to go, please sign up asap.

If you are even considering it, now is the time to act. You won't regret it. To my knowledge, everyone from Skatelog that has tried it has become a regular. We've had a pretty good representation for the last two years and would love to have even more. Join us in Athens on Saturday October 4th and skate all the way to Atlanta the next day October 5th.
26.2 miles? Anyone can do that. Challenge yourself to something bigger. Sure, it's a little scary with the distance and the hills, but the satisfaction of accomplishing something as challenging as this will give you the confidence to tackle anything. It isn't easy and it isn't for everyone, but anyone can do it. There's a solid 8 weeks of training left. Anyone that's been skating all summer has plenty of base and plenty of time to ramp it up and take their skating to the next level.

Sign up today, bring a friend, do it as a team. Everyone knows that the friends you make during this race are your skatepals forever.

Just to clarify, the remark "do it as a team" means start and finish together, working cooperatively as a team. There are no relays in this event.

Jimmy Blair, come on down!!!
Are you gonna just be a tool
in this machine or are you gonna
step the hell up and show what
you are capable of? A2A could
surely use a local boy ready to
take it to the next level. Sure
you could sell a couple pair of
skates, but nothing says,
"My skates go the distance"
better than YOU going the distance
in your own skates. When's the
last time a Yankee brought home
the bacon? My buddy Nick LaVigne
has no interest in the long skate.
Ya wanna show 'em who the big dog
is or what? Rock the indoor, own the
outdoor. Take it to the next level...

"A moment's courage and it's done"

What moment is everyone going to chose?

A2A is my favorite race. Everyone who does this race loves skating. From the fastest to the least fastest, everyone has that love in common. It is much less a race and much more a challenge. In this setting everyone becomes a teammate and a friend.

Default Yep, Great News

It seems life intervenes and I'm only able to make it every other year. Well this is my year to return to A2A and I couldn't be happier. Six times under my belt means this year, skating the full distance, I'll just squeak over 600 miles in the Dura Skater rankings. What an event, I love it.

94??? Yikes! I hope this isn't the last one. Back when I attempted it 10 years ago, there were several hundred entrants.

since then I've signed up, so we're at least up to 95. Than said the late 90's were the hey day for most US skating events.

I'm in. Non-refundable airfare is booked, which is the biggest expense of the trip.

I'm in! The rentals of the buses, the SAG wagons, and the supply vans are on my credit card, with none of them being refundable (tho I do get credit if I have to cancel, only it goes to future reservations of vehicles). So help me out: volunteer, draft (not the skate technique), coerce, blackmail, whatever
you have to do and get more skaters out to skate the A2A. Will we have an
event even with 94 skaters, YES! YES! But I would feel my deposit on those vehicles would get more out of it if more skaters show up and participate.

And regarding what happened in 2005. The police, vehicles, shirts, and other
misc. stuff have to be worked out months in advance. When the numbers
didn't show some of the core volunteers that were with us at that time were worried we wouldn't have enough money for insurance and police and canceled the (2005) event, and it became a club skate. That's why we keep asking to register so early. So we have a good idea if we have the money.

See ya'll this October

Every year here in Illinois it's the same thing, everyone is going to do A2A "next year." I have been working the most likely suspects hard this year to almost no avail. I'll keep trying though, as failure is not an option.

There is no 10K this year. A key reason is that A2A couldn't get enough volunteers. And is yet short of volunteers for the other events, so....

FYI - I think there were about 135 signed up in the last confirmation list I looked at.
