Yeah, I'm skating solo.
I figure if I follow everything moreCowbell does, I'd be OK.

Had my first solo crash in years during my last long skate. I was hungry and needed a humble pie. Don't feel so confident now.

Jessica, are you still looking for teammates? I may know someone. If you're looking I could find out. The person I'm thinking of has participated twice before & currently skates sub 1:30 marathons.

YES!!! We are looking for more members, as we only have 7 now and one of them is wavering. YES! I was getting a little into worrying mode this morning wondering how more painful it would be with less of a team. Please have the person contact me, or sign up on the board. Did I said yes yet?

I'll contact this person first to see if there's still interest and if so, will PM you with the email, etc. I'll let you know once I know.

There's a large number of people we skate with in the area that we regularly keep in touch with (send out skating event notices, group skates, etc -- approx 75 persons are currently on our skating email list) and if you like I can also send out an email to the speedskaters from that list saying you're looking for members. I can start with the skaters that have done the 24 hour before. Currently there are no Toronto teams signed up and I don't think there will be either, so there may be interest.

I think next year I'll put this race in my race budget Darn the airplane ticket to you and back here costs 857 which is without hotel and such... and probably I'd like to see some of Montreal (maybe at least an NHL ring) if i go there :P

LAST CALL!!

We have 3-4 spots left, and we need to fill them asap. The event is creeping up quickly and we need to get our team settled. If we don't get any more interest we'll be recruiting elsewhere, so I just wanted to give you maybes one more chance to make up your minds

If you can't get enough SkateLoggers, have you considered posting a call for skaters on the event forum? I believe there's a specific thread for people trying to cobble together teams.

I will talk to members of my club. Originally we were going to have a team but I am not sure what the latest plans are. Meanwhile there are no preparations going on.

I am sure that you will fill the SL team.

I just checked the Montreal web site, there are now 71 teams and 30 soloists. I believe they closed registration last year at 75 teams.

SQ is the only US recreation team; there are three US fitness teams - SL, SQ, and Flying Fossils.

Yes, but 8 American soloists! (Plus 2 from France.)

It's this that makes me want to organize a 24-hour race in the USA. If Montreal can sell out with nearly all Canadian teams (and most of those from Ontario and Quebec) then the US should be able to support one. The trick would be to locate it somewhere within a 1-day drive of interested skaters.

Just reminiscing. It's 12:30 pm and one year ago today we were getting ready to finish up the 24 hour. I had completed my final lap, took off the skates, packed them in the van and was organizing our celebratory beverages for the finish line. Our team was deciding who would skate the hero lap (I had started the first). We chose one of the kids (Alex) on the team ... he was just 14 and held up so well for the event that we decided he was the one to finish. It helped that he was still doing 7:20 laps & we figured he could haul his butt fast enough to complete 2 laps in the time left over. He was so pumped when we told him the last lap was his and he was especially pumped that Joel would be handing off to him. They'd had a friendly rivalry going. Near the beginning of the event Joel told Alex that he (Joel) had done a 7:10 lap & Alex kept trying to better it. Everytime he went out there, this kid gave it everything he had. BTW, Joel's fastest time was actually 7:25 or something like that.

I was at the finish line when Eric G came in, saw Alex fly by for his 2nd lap, saw MC come in. Saw some other friends come in as well. When Alex came in from his 2nd lap -- it was something like 7:13. He was a little disappointed until we told him that it was the fastest lap for our team.

I'm more than a little disappointed that they changed the date & I won't be able to be there this year.

Default 24 hr Montreal recruit from Chicago's NSP

Is there room for one more? I persuaded Kirsten Lefeldt to join the 24hr-Montreal SkateLog team, she skates with Chicago's NSP.

Default 2008 24hrs Montreal SL Team

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I've done all four previous editions of the 24 hrs Montreal race (first 3 years on the Vermont team, last year solo). We didn't get a team together this year, so I'm looking for one. I really love the event and the camaraderie. Any chance I can be on the SL team?
