Races will be held rain or shine. Flooding of the loop (very rare but possible if multiple days of hard rain) will turn the event into a group skate on the remaining dry roads in the park. Due to the nature of putting on outdoor inline races where most costs are non-refundable and paid well in advance, no refunds due to Mother Nature’s fury will be possible. It is all part of “life happens”. Early November in Houston typically hosts very favorable weather both in terms of precipitation and temperatures.

Timing
You will pick up your timing chips Saturday morning. Put them on either ankle. Timing will be a matless system by the elite SplitMaster Timing Company. The 300m will be timed wire to wire for each skater. The 10k and half marathon will start on a line separate from the finish line for correct distance. Times for these two races will start at GUN TIME meaning all chips will start at the same time. You will be wearing the same chip for all races. All chips are pre-checked prior to the race and will read each of your laps and splits, HOWEVER, SKATERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING CORRECT COUNT OF THEIR LAPS. It is perfectly acceptable and encouraged to have a spectator or coach you trust to help you keep track. We will have a lap counter for the lead skater/pack. DO NOT CROSS THE TIMING WIRES OR COME CLOSE TO THE THEM AT ANY NON-RACE TIME. DO NOT AT ANY TIME TURN AROUND AND GO AGAINST TRAFFIC. If you do not wish to circle the entire loop after a race, there is a sidewalk to the left of the course that runs to the restrooms then back to before the start line. RETURN YOUR CHIP AFTER YOUR FINAL RACE.

Day of Race
Sunrise is 6:42 AM. Day of race registration will begin at 6:30 AM. Registration will close at 7:30 AM firm. SplitMaster requires 30 minutes between last registration and the first race. No exceptions will be possible. Awards will be held following the last race after timing is complete; the points have been tallied and double checked. Remember to stay loose and limber between races in addition to hydrating and refueling.

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED TO RACE. No exceptions. Wrist, elbow, and knee are strongly encouraged. No headphones of any kind will be allowed except for the 300m. Any skater found racing with headphones even if the device is not turn on will be disqualified and given NO REFUND of any kind. Safety first!

Course Etiquette – Slower skaters should stay to the right side of the course. This is both courtesy and to allow faster skaters who can reach speeds over 30 mph to safely pass on the left. Skaters who are passing should be able announce themselves prior to overtaking a slower skater or paceline.

Once we begin at 8:00 AM consider the timeline fluid. Skaters should pay attention to announcements. Packet pick-up will have a schedule handout but it is possible events will run a bit ahead of or behind schedule.

Event Gear
 Champion Jerseys – Pro male & female, Pro Master *male & *female, and overall Open male & female champions (not each age group in Open) will win a short sleeve Champion jersey sponsored by Randy Bowman & PYROApparel. A demo jersey and samples for sizing will be on hand. Winners will get an order form to fill out and have the jersey of their preferred size mailed to them.
 Non-Champion event jerseys can be purchased via order form. $50 includes shipping direct to recipient. Jerseys include long zippers, high quality moisture wick fabric, 3 rear pockets, and choice of elastic or hemmed bottom.

Park Location/Houston Information and Directions
Bear Creek Park is on the west side of Houston approximately 15 miles from the downtown area. Speed limits in the park are 20 and 25 mph. If you choose to park on the race loop your auto(s) will NOT be able to depart until all races are complete. Do not park your autos in lot by the finish line, the one lot prior (south), and at the entrance of the loop as it is part of the course. Police will block the loop starting at 8 AM. There are parking spaces walking and skating distance to the race loop. The loop has picnic tables and charcoal grills that are available for all to use throughout the day. There are several playground areas in various locations in the park in addition to a small zoo and other amenities. The race site has a permanent restroom facility in the center of the loop that can be accessed on skates. There are two large covered pavilions with benches, tables, and electricity. Pop-up tents are welcome. If you skate elsewhere in the park do so wisely on these roads such as signal to autos, keep eyes open for pedestrians and pets. Be prepared to stop.

Houston has two major airports. Bush Intercontinental (IAH) to the north and Hobby (HOU) to the southeast. Bear Creek Park is a 2 hour drive from Austin's main airport and 3-4 hours from Dallas/Ft. Worth. Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States.

Beltway 8 is a toll road. There are attendants in which to pay cash if your auto is not equipped with a EZTag. This is a convenient highway from Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to the race area.

From I-10 West and East (two route choices):
I-10 to Eldridge Parkway. Turn north. Continue north approximately 2.5 miles to a left turn at light onto War Memorial Drive. Pass the mini zoo on left to LEFT turn onto Sullins Way. Follow to race site parking.
Or
I-10 to Highway 6 (which is one exit west of Eldridge). Turn north and travel approximately 2 miles to Patterson Road. Right at light onto Patterson road. Left onto Bear Creek Drive. Right onto S. Golbow Drive. (Note this road is a loop that connects again to Bear Creek Dr. a short distance further to the north.) Right onto Brandt Dr. to Sullins Way. Race site to the right on Sullins.
From the Northwest:
Coming into town on 290: Take ramp onto Sam Houston Tollway South (To avoid toll, take Senate Rd/Beltway-8 exit from 290 then turn right on Beltway-8 feeder road. Continue south then exit Clay Road.) Turn right on Clay Road. Continue on Clap past lights at Brittmore and Eldridge Rds. Turn left onto War Memorial Drive at 3rd light. Drive past soccer fields, and turn right onto Sullins Way.

Hotel information
Host hotel - TBD
The zip code for the park is 77084. There are many hotels located along Interstate 10 in many price ranges. The intersection of I-10 and Hwy. 6 (one exit west of Eldridge off of I-10) contains a cluster of hotels.

Gear Sale Table
We will have a table area run by a volunteer for everyone to bring new and used in good condition equipment, skates, jerseys, suits, etc. to be put for sale at a price determined by the seller. A small amount will be collected from each sale to donate to CAP animal shelter. Set your price accordingly and bring $ to buy training and race equipment.
$5 – $24 = $1 donation $25 - $49 = $2 $50 - $99 = $3 $100+ = $5

Default prize $ added!

PRIZE MONEY ADDED!!

Money has been donated to the event including towards the overall male and female quad winners of their 3 race combo event. $100 each. If the purse grows so will this amount and/or the depth of payment.

Quad skaters wanting to skate more miles may also skate with the open skaters during the 10k and half marathon (you're already doing the 300m too). The only limits are time and track etiquette. Feel free to roll the full or as much distance as you can in the time block for each distance.

To get this discount rate you must reserve your rooms by October 25th. For room reservations, please call 1-800-207-3471 and specify Battle at Bear Creek special event. This is a nice hotel (formerly a Crown Plaza) with amenities that include an indoor salt system pool, hot tub, gym, on-site restaurant, refrigerators, and more. The hotel is located near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 6 in the northeast corner, and it is approximately 2 miles to the entrance of the park and 3 miles to the race site. Paige Fowler, Convention Services Manager, will make any special arrangements concerning guest room needs, rooming lists, and transportation.

Additional information to know for this year:

TRAINING CLINIC FOR ALL on Saturday, November 2 at the race site – Sullins Way loop area at Bear Creek Park. Arrive by 9 AM! Expect the clinic to last 3 hours, and you will get more out of it than you can imagine. Besides Race Director Renee Coffman as emcee, technique coach, and nutrition education, there will be coaches from other teams to help out with how to prepare for race day and actual race day insider information. Bring lots of water and healthy snacks to refuel between skating sessions. Email Renee at paradana2000@yahoo.com with questions.

RACE DAY - B@BC will supply Hammer Nutrition Heed mixed with water in a cooler. All other items will be dependent on event sponsorship. Skaters should bring water to last them through the morning. I suggest 1 gallon per adult and a half a gallon for children under 12, along with a reusable water bottle. Remember, while this is not a single distance event, such as a marathon, it will be several intense races over several hours. Also be sure to bring snacks to replenish calories between the longer events and after the final race. Choose items that are healthy, not full of artificial ingredients. You will want something easy to digest. Cliff Shots, Hammer Gel, Stingers brand items, bananas, trail mix, just to name a few, are excellent choices. Gatorade is not an excellent choice. Use your down-time between races wisely. It is good to rest a bit and chat with friends, but remember to also stay loose and limber.

There are picnic tables with seats in the park and large covered pavilions, but if you have chairs, lawn blankets, or own a pop-up style tent, I highly recommend bringing these items. Foldable chairs will be much more comfortable, and a tent will allow you to sit where you please while sheltered from any elements.

Remember to bring any new or used skate gear and training items you would like to try to sell at our Gear Sale Table. Bring your wallets too, as there might be gear for sale you need in addition to the growing list of skate companies that will be in attendance.

Bont – contact Debbie Rice at barbiebont@aol.com Inlines, quads, frames, cycling shoes. Get your feet molded for boots & shoes at the races by Justin Stelly.

EZeeFit - http://ezeefitsports.com/ Need Booties? Contact Glenn Koshi for all kinds of protection gear at glenn916@yahoo.com

Simmons - http://simmons-racing.com/ David and Jennifer Simmons will be on hand to cast for elite Made in USA boots, cycling shoes, and more. Contact Dave to schedule a molding.

PowerSlide - http://www.powerslide.de/ Contact Pete Snell at Pete Snell pete.snell@gmail.com and be sure to stop by his booth at Bear Creek on race day.

Pinnacle Racing - http://www.pinnacleracing.com/ Elite Pro skater Jimmy B II will be both rolling and molding. Top notch custom boots and high end frames.

Asphalt Beach - http://www.asphaltbeach.com/ The coolest skate shop East of the Mississippi stocked with inline and quad & derby goodies. Call the shop at (615) 228-1105

Edgetek – http://edgetekracing.com/ Come check out Brad Harper’s serious race gear including molded for new custom boots.

RollerBob - http://rollerbob.com/ The ultimate online deal for lighting fast race wheels and bearings.

It is very important to support the skate companies that still support skating events to keep us all going. Please be sure to thank them.

Saturday post-race lunch – Several restaurants are very close to the park at the intersection of Highway 6 and Clay Road. This is the Northwest corner of Bear Creek Park. I scoped out Los Cucos which has many large tables, outdoor playground for younger kids, and friendly staff. B@BC will not make specific reservations for attendance but feel free to call the restaurant in advance to alert them if you are bringing a large party.

After Battle at Bear Creek will be the Conquest at Champions indoor race event, hosted by Champions Roller World and their speed team. Event director is:
Tracy Donnelly
tracydonnelly1@yahoo.com

Champions Roller World
http://www.skatechampions.com/

They will have indoor racing Saturday evening and again Sunday for a full weekend of challenging racing and fun.

For those not savvy as indoor skaters, there will be an outdoor training session led by local Pro Master Jeff Kohn (jeff@kohn-family.com). If you wish to roll out your weary legs, or if you did not skate hard enough on Saturday, you can add mileage by skating our 5.75 mile training loop, which Jeff will show on a first lap warm-up. Information will be available Saturday at Battle at Bear Creek.
