Default Hello I would like to Introduce myself

Hello my name is Pat I am from Spokane Washington.
I have a little history of skating I am 40 years old.
I started session skating at Cal Skate in Millpitas California.
Than moved to Spokane in 1981 and Skated out of Skate Town,
in the Spokane Valley. My Speed Coaches Were Dennis Howard and his
wife at the time Colleen Hughes ( Her Maiden name ).

Through the mid 80's I met several people of the sport. Curtis Cook, Steve Cook, Ives Bernstien wich is now married to Colleen Hughes, some more people that some of you might know or might want to talk to is Tony Hughes , Leo Hughes , Jerry Hughes, Steve Torvik, Brent Torvik,.

Anyway I keep in touch with some of these people and I am enjoying this site
very much. thank you.

Default NICE!

SO sad about that PERFECT RINK. I think that place was the BEST EVER. I have some of the signage and goodies from there as a reminder.
Milpitas!
Hopefully we can get some west coast quad speed happening sooner rather than later.

Yup, had the very distinct pleasure of skating Milpitas once in my lifetime and without a doubt, the best floor I have skated! I skated there around late `85

Default Speedy pat

I remember most of those old racers.
Coleen hughes i thought was from texas.
I sent curtis cook a tape from the 1975
nationals and he never answered me. I
really thought he was a great guy. Was
sorry to find out he couldn't be trusted.
Dennis howard was from columbus, ohio
he skated out of dorsos rink in cincy, ohio.
He came to my club first and i had to tell him
i had my relays picked. We had timmy -tommy
small and pete "swampy" diebele for our 4man
so he went to dorsos. It worked out for him
because the next year 1977 was the first year
on plastic wheels and the last year i coached.
I hated plastic wheels!

Hey Tony I believe Colleen might have skated out of Texas she has moved around over the years her parents had rinks in Spokane and on the coast.
Tacoma and I believe Bremerton. I new Dennis was from out of town he only
coached here for that 1 season. I saw that you had mentioned the tapes and Curtis in another thread I might be able to assit you with the return of the tape but I can't make any promisses.

Default Speed tapes

Pat:
I don't want the tape back i just like to know why he
never wrote and told me he received them. It was a 1975
tape and the smalls and cooks put on 2 great races
the 2 man 5 mile
the 4 man 4 mile
the smalls won both. The races were great and the relay
tags were tops.
Curtis was a great racer.

Default I skated there a few times.......you must of been around 8 years old in 81

I was about 21 then.....when did you speed skate....what years....I skated out of the harbor roller rink. Costa Mesa,Ca in the 70's.....then started coaching a little....in Arizona....I have not seen or heard of Curtis Cook.....since then....And none of the old guard has not either....He just seemed to fall off the earth....I really did not know him all that well....Do you remember Chris Snyder, Ken Hutter, Donnie Van Patter, and Tim Caldwell...To name a few..They are still around....I facebook them once in awhile.......Chris just got married a few weeks back....and a little more than a week ago his brother Mark passed away.....
