Details are posted on the Main Event web link: http://www.saltlakecitymarathon.com/race/10k-skate/

For those traveling in from outside SLC, Alaska Air has been offering pretty sweet deals into Salt Lake, planning early can save you $.

What else is there to do in Utah you ask? It's mid-April in Utah, we experience mostly nice springtime temperatures in the valley, but there's plenty of skiing & snowboarding to be had at high elevation. We're planning for some snowy fun in the mtns on Sunday for those interested, and an alternate group skate on Antelope Island, for those that prefer wheels to sliding on snow. Hope you can join us!

See you at the Start Line!

What is the overall rolling surface smoothness quality of the race course ?

Is it a point-to-point, single loop, or multi loop?

Do any turns have downhill runs feeding into them that can trigger crashes from gaining too much speed?

Course is overall pretty smooth, typical street surfaces, a few manholes, few cracks (which get marked). The course is point to point, but the Start & Finish areas are a mere 7 city blocks apart - so easy to get to/from both places.

Re: downhills & potential crashing? Uh, kind of a loaded Q, which I am not going to tell you it's fall-proof, if that is what you are looking for, as everything has associated potential risk. But, if not an experienced skater, you could conceivably fall, even on the flats for that matter. There were a number of first-timer derby gals out there last year, they were fine on the course, and were excited to come back this year. The course is relatively flat for the most part with a little bit of descend & uphill grades in the first 8 to 10 blocks - you can plot in the course on Map My Ride for more accurate elevation info. From the Start there is a gradual downhill for the first 3 to 4 blocks(from Start to 700 south), then levels out for block, then the first left turn is 2 block of uphill climbing (between 900 E & 1100 E), that climb will make you work. But, again an all very doable course, even for newbie derby gals on quad skates. From the top of the 2 blocks of climb is another slight gradual descend (almost imperceptible downgrade) for 3-4 blocks before things level out again, and the remainder of the course is pretty flat into the finish.
Plotting the course on Map My Ride will help you better compare the grades to skating terrain you are used to, and you can be the judge of your abilities re: your skills and the course.

Registration Fees are just $25.00, and go up on Jan 1st.

Post-Event Comments & Results:

141 recorded, 159 at the start line (180 had signed up). Seems some folks did not get times captured, most likely due to placement of bibs. With chipped bibs, like any chipped system, bib placement is critical.

Course was great, temps a little cooler than last year, but not a deterrent.

The finish area for skaters was reconfigured from last year, and all went off perfectly.

Afternoon apres' skate on Antelope Island Causeway was wonderful. A bit of wind made for a flying ride out and a lil' work coming back, but nothing a grilled buffalo burger could not make up for!

Next Years Date: Sat, April 22, 2017. Entry fees are currently at $25!
