Default Having an issue (Ads Are Sorted by Thread Creation Date)

Hopefully I am not being an idiot and missing something here....

So, I go to this part of the board. I see xgessyou2x's post for the Prolines is still alive. I'm somewhat interested, so I want to take a look.

I click where it says Quad Skates, but the post is nowhere to be found????

If I go back to where xgessyou2x's post title '2 pair 675 prolines' is visible and click where the post title is a live link, click on the link, it takes me to it.

The post appears to be in the quad skates section, but it is not on the first page. It is the dead last post on the last page. Actually, many of the posts are not sorted by date? I'm sure there is a reason, but I can not figure it out.

Looks like the posts in the Quad Skates section are sorted by the date of the first post in the threads from newest to oldest. They are not sorted by the date of the last post in the threads.

I could be incorrect about that.

I think Kathy stopped the thread from moving to the top whenever someone post to it to keep people from bumping items to the top. When an item is posted for sale I think it stays for a month and then the mods remove it. At least I remember reading something like this when a lot of these changes were being made.

That's exactly right Edward and FanJet, the posts in most of our forums are sorted by post date, but in our advertising forum everything is sorted by the date the discussion was started (aka the date the item was first posted for sale or want-to-buy).

The main reason we sort by thread creation date in the advertising forum instead of by post date, is to avoid new items immediately being buried by a ton of older items with newer comments. A secondary reason is to avoid "bumping wars" in the advertising forum. A few sellers were constantly bumping their for-sale posts to the top of the pile by posting comments or asking their friends to post comments about the items they were selling. But those problems are a thing of the past, which (I'll say it again...) I love!

Makes sence. The bumping can get annoying.

Default Easy fix

Click on the "Last Post" link and it will sort by most recent posting, just like it used to. It isn't static, though, and you have to do it each time you enter that forum, but it is an easy workaround.

No, I wasn't referring to your sale being annoying. A while ago, I listed some stuff for sale. It didn't take long for it to end up on page 2, and within a few days, it many pages back, never to be seen again without doing some serious digging. That was annoying.

I used your post as an example of showing up on the main forum list, but it didn't show up anywhere on page 1. Hopefully, I didnt come across as complaining. I was just curious as to how the posts were sorted.
