Jim, I was thinking that the weight gain could be as a result of sodium on your free day.
I am down to 165 this morning. Only 20 more pounds to go.

Katy,
If you knew the amount of salt I eat you would die. It's funny because I only have moderate hypertension. I should be 200/120 with all the salt and with my weight. But I maintain a low of 135/85 and a high of 145/95. It's not the best but heck, for my weight and salt intake it could be a heck of a lot worse.

Katy,
One other stat this is amazing for someone with my weight. My heart rate at rest is between 60 and 70. Usually at the low end, and sometimes I drop into the 50's. My O2 level is at about 96 and above.

the body resists sometimes... but then you'll see like 3 lbs in a 3 days or something silly like that... keep it up!

Ok, I should be moving. I am well under 2k calories a day. That includes everything that goes into my body. At least I am not hungry.

Just a thought, but most health/weight loss sites and books that I have come across recommend weighing in once a week to minimize the frustration of the normal daily fluctuations we all have in our weight.

I actually pulled out my old favorite pair of "skinny" jeans. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I was able to put them on and zip them. I don't think I could get one leg into them when I started skating last year. Which leads me to an interesting observation, I weigh 20 pounds more now than I did the last time I could wear them. That tells me that at least some of the weight I have know is from building muscle from skating. I've still definitely got some to lose but that gives me hope and keeps me from pining over what the scale says. S

Sarah,
The picture on my profile page leaning against my car was when I was in my early 20's. I weighed about 170 lbs. I didn't look very strong, but I could press 600 lbs with my legs over 10 reps. I took a scuba class back then and I almost failed. I had so much muscle that I could not float. I was burning energy kicking to tread water. I could crawl on the bottom of the pool. The short of it. Skating will build a lot of muscle and you will look lean. Those pants I was wearing were a 30" waist at 170 lbs. I didn't have rippling muscles, but I had no fat either. Quote:

When I started skating I thought with the exercise I would lose weight, but I did not lose any. My pants started to fit better though, so I decided I was gaining muscle. Now I do weigh less the when I started skating and I fit into almost all of my "thin clothes" but I still weigh more then when I was thin and not skating.
One of the people I skate with is very petite, and she has gained weight since she started skating. I keep telling myself I should start doing push ups, and sit ups. My stomach and arms are flabby, and they do not "match" my getting toned legs.

I had several of them like that. Polyester double knits. Stretched fantastically.
Only problem was that if I took a hard fall, they would melt from the friction. Like burnt plastic, it would clump and harden.

More figures, Katy. I swear to you they are killer on your arms and abs, especially those smaller circles. My coach insists on every muscle from my shoulder to the tip of my fingers engaged and the same from my shoulder down my back and my front. And then, keep it all perfectly still and consistent. It's exhausting but really effective. Someday, I'll be able to do it throughout a complete figure.

So there is a way to get firmer abs with out ever doing a sit up? I am in. Two kids made a mess of what was there.
Also I was wondering where those two "ab lines" on the sides were coming from, its figures.

I peeked! I had to peek. Darn, darn, darn. I had to do it...
Ok, I won't peek for a week. Not peeking is more difficult than the diet, but I will do it. Good news is that I dropped over half a pound yesterday. I am now at the 296's.
