Talked to a guy who has visited the new Temecula rink. Not too far from San Diego.

Score One for session skating.

Good to hear of one opening. So many rinks are closing their doors these days. This is a ray of hope for us all.

Exclamation New Rink

Someone needed a tax write off. Won't be open long, look at the session prices--$10 + skate rental(if needed)$4 per session.........ouch.

Not to worry. That is a tony area of San Diego county. The other rink in San Diego is run down and rough. The high price may keep the riffraff out. Heck, Moonlight in Glendale is $9.

They're new and still working out the kinks. However, when you factor in the dearth of skating rinks and alternate forms of entertainment (how much does a movie cost these days?) it's relatively cheap. I also like the fact that they have 3 adult nights.

Epic is a small rink and a bit oddly shaped but the fact that rink closures seem to be more frequent than rink openings...

3 adult nights? Not bad. Which have you attended? How many people show?

I think I will need to make a trek down there to check it out.

Been to all three. Wednesdays is advanced skate night for people with their own skates but they do make exceptions. I get in because I go with an advanced skater. Turn out is pretty light, 25-35 ppl on average.

Thursday and Sunday have a higher turnout and it can get a bit crowded. I see most of the really advanced jam skaters on these nights. Lot of rex skating. Wouldn't touch open skate again though, too small a rink for that many ppl.

Biggest gripe I have is with the DJs. The owners are still trying out different ones but they're getting better incrementally. Early ones were not skaters and played a combination of too much hard rap, too much club music, too loud, too much Hall & Oates, etc. It's getting better.

Hall & Oates? Wow. Can't say I have ever heard them at session.

25-35 in a small space seems like a good crowd.

I mean, wow, a new rink. Hmm. Maybe Wednesday. Oh wait, Holiday is doing Hawaiian night. Gotta go there Wednesday. Maybe Sunday.

Yeah, there were quite a few "WTH!?!?" looks exchanged on the floor when the first one came on. But when he played another H&O song, you could hear the grumbling over the music. I heard that one DJ played some music from Star Wars...he wasn't invited back.

The non-skater DJs seem to think that any 80's song will work on Old-School night but even a neophyte like myself knows that isn't true.

If/When you do go, let us know what you think.

Why the 2 big steps in the center floor but still a cool looking rink.

Personally, I'd work in at least 2 Van Halens, one Doobie Brothers, a Styx, a Boston, a Metallica, a Bush, and Michael Jacksons' Beat It, because it is half Van Halen anyway. And if I were feeling daring, I'd play Cheryl Lynns' Star Love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwDpAlJ8Qa4 Provided I have paramedics, aspirin, and oxygen on the sideline to handle possible cardiac incidents for people trying to keep up with the whole song.

I would hazard to guess that they are little kid forts. If a few little kids are not doing so well skating. Put them in the fort. Everybody's happy!

I dunno????? It's just one of those things. Like making a banana split with a cucumber?

Hall and Oates. It just seems foreign to me as "rink music" somehow. It has more of a lounge music feel.

How about "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccenFp_3kq8

Number 1 on the Billboard R&B charts in November, 1981. Respect!

Calling it R&B makes it easier to take.

I think it is the "soft rock" label that screws with my skate mojo.
