Default Reason why I will never mold a skate in the oven again :(

I got my brand new pinnacle vortex in the mail on Saturday. I was so excited to get them I was almost giddy with excitement. They were purple and soooo pretty!

I have heat molded every pair of skates I have ever had in the oven and never had a problem. Did the left skate, no problems. Popped the right skate in the oven. Set the timer for 10 minutes and sat down in the living room to wait.

8 minutes later the oven started freaking out beeping and flashing an error code on the digital panel. Turns out the oven temperature sensor picked that exact time to break and instead of regulating the temperature at 200 degrees it just kept getting hotter. I opened the oven and my brand new, never skated on, pretty purple boot was a blob of black goo that had melted all over the equally new and unused vanquish frames...

Can't even begin to describe the sinking feeling in my gut when I looked in the oven.

Here is what it looked like before it got cooked

Yoooo...that totally sucks. Can you claim it on your homeowner's insurance? Other than that, I bet if you call Jimmy and explain the situation he'd help you out as best he can.

I am hoping that Jimmy will agree to make me just one new boot for half the cost of a new pair since the other skate is fine but I am not sure if he will be able to do that or not.

I emailed him but I havent heard back, probably cause he is just getting back from the meet over the weekend.

The frame is probably still usable. It looks bad, but I am hoping that it is still structurally sound.

The thermostat in my over has a mind of its own. Typically, I heat the oven 50 degrees over where it needs to be. Let it hold there for at least half an hour. Shut the oven off and let it cool down to slightly above where it needs to be. Drop the boots in and let them come up to heat. The oven holds the heat well enough to bring the boots up to temp. The thermostat can not be trusted.

I sent you an email......

Need to see pics...

How hot did the oven get??(do you think). LSR frames use a special heat treat and don't take kindly to extreme heat. 200F OK, but melt down...IDK.

Default After Pictures

Okay as promised, here are the after pictures...it pained me to take these. You cant see the frame damge very well in the pictures, in person they are discolored and rough to the touch from the coating being burned away.
After the whole mess cooled, I was able to get the melted boot off the frame.

I have heard back from both George and Jimmy and they are both going to help me get a replacement skate at reduced prices. That is going above and beyond in the customer service department. So I would just like to add my +1 to all the posts here about how awesome both of these companies are.
