So far we have three people confirmed for the SkateLog team at the Montreal 24 hour event, and I expect more will sign up later. I can register the team anytime, and I will do it as soon as the team - no matter how few they are - think they have enough people to skate the event.

I'm getting close to being "definitely in". Still in the process of getting final wife acceptance, but I kinda have a card up my sleeve, since my birthday is a few days after the event. "Honey, for my birthday I want..."

Anyone else? Put your name in the maybe list even if you're just thinking about it. I have at least one other skater who doesn't visit this board very often so we're close to having a pretty decent team.

For anyone thinking about it but doesn't think they're fast enough - it isn't even an issue. I would like to do this for fun, not competition.

This race seems like the opportunity of a lifetime, ranking right up there with A2A.

All day skating in increments of 2-some miles??? Too cool ...

And you know, it's far enough out that I might actually be able to plan for it.

Default Getting injuires out of the way early enough for recovery . . .

While my injuries are not nearly as bad as Jessica's, I'll probably be in pain for the next week or more. During indoor practice, I had a nasty collision with a skater as I was drilling hard around a corner and the other skater, who wasn't drilling and wasn't paying attention, skated right into my path. I got the wind knocked out of me and early shock led to soreness which has led to pain in my upper chest and back. Tomorrow, I'll see how it impacts my skating and determine then whether I need to lay off for a couple weeks. But, hey, we still have 6 months before Montreal, so not to worry, right?

Just looked at my schedule and I can't ask my wife to go as I already have to go to indoor nationals. I know that at least two kids from the team should qualify with out any problems (falling down, breaking bones, etc).

Husband Kevin has been asked to skate this 24 hour event with some other Pro Master/Veteran men from our region the past two years. However, each year it has conflicted with the start of Indoor Nationals. Similarly, this year. Bummer... But we look forward to hopefully meeting mvirtue though in Omaha

Just checked the Montreal 24-Hour website (1/20) and there are already 7 Recreation, 1 Fitness, and 1 Pro-Elite teams registered for the event. There are also 3 Solo skaters registered, however I did not see Lawrence (MoreCowbell) listed with the solo skaters.

MC -Are you still doing solo or are you going to be skating on the SL Team?

Our team captain has registered the Skater's Quest team under the Recreation category; we will probably be sending a Recreation and a Fitness team as we had 14 definites and 8 maybes based on our last team Evite.

MC - Very cool! Just looked at the Montreal registration page and you are there as team "More Cowbell". Good luck, this event will bring out the best in you. Are you bringing a manager or significant other to help you at the event? Having someone else take care of the drinks, eats, and equipment while you concentrate on skating will be a big help.

Yep, my sister will be coming up to help, and maybe a friend will be joining the More Cowbell crew as well. Good luck with your training, Howard, and I'm sure I'll be asking many more questions in the coming months!

Don - sweet!!!!

If you don't mind my asking - what are your flight details? Are you flying directly into Montréal? I've been checking the flights and unfortunately the prices have gone up so I'm waiting a bit to see if they go back down again. Right now they're around $400

Any chance we can get a few more confirmations for the SkateLog 24 Hour Montreal Team by Wednesday, January 31?

As soon as we have enough skaters for a team I will register the team and book my own airfare and hotel (I'm not skating this one... I will handle the paperwork and be the team gofer during the event). Jessica suggested 7 skaters might be a reasonable minimum team size.

Summer is high season, cost of flights only go up. The best part is, click through the order of an airline ticket online. At first you see the price of the ticket without taxes and all the other fees. (Like fuel surcharge... can't airlines figure out, x hours flight time times y tons of fuel per hour times cost of a ton of kerosene / estimated number of passangers and raise the ticket price appropriately, but that's a rant for another day.)

Anyway without giving a credit card number, just click through as far as possible, a flight from Toronto to Montreal might cost as little as $50 or $60 but after tax can easily go to $200.00.

Check several airlines and also compare the cost of flying to Burlington, VT instead of Montreal; that is sometimes cheaper than flights direct to Montreal. For example, United has Dulles to Burlington (BTV) for $348 roundtrip; Dulles to Montreal nonstop is $551. However, Northwest has a good price for Dulles to Montreal with a Detroit transfer for $321.

I really did not consider the race a possibility but mentioned it in passing and my wife said "why don't you go?" I've got a few summer plans to work around (2 or 3 canoe trips, family trip, a graduation, etc.) but it just may work.

FWIW, I'm guessing I would be on the either side of the border between Montreal's Fitness & Pro/Elite categories.

Now I have to talk to my skating buddy and convince him (last night he was talking about how cool it would be to skate it solo).
