Probably start with some stalls on a curb or practice rail. Toebox.net has a list of diff. tricks you can try. A stall is where you just hop onto the rail, pause and hold it a bit, then hop back off. it's good to start with that to get the muscle-coordination memory of locking on before you start to slide. (I'm probably not the best qualified to give advice on this though as I'm still quite the newbie)
