Default Big News About the Future of the SkateLog Forum

I have a big announcement to make and it is good news! But first I want to take a few minutes and share something very personal with all of you. I'm sure many of you noticed I have not been as visible in the forum during the last few months. I apologize for that, but it was because my mother passed away last May and over the last few months I have been flying back and forth between LAX and HNL, every 6 or 8 weeks, to visit my father. I am including such personal information in this message because I want you all to understand that I have not been getting bored (With this forum? No way!) or been negligant, or careless, or lazy. it's just that between those visits, keeping up with my real job, and handling family business, I have not had much time to do other things in the last few months. Things are calming down now though, and I am feeling much more on top of things.

Anyway, now on to the good news. I have reached the point where I feel I need (and want) to share SkateLog Forum hosting and managing responsibilities with an official co-host. I've reached that point partly because of my busy travel schedule, partly because of my busy work schedule (I do have a full time job believe it or not), and partly because of a big new project I have been working on that I will tell you about in another thread.

So here is my big announcement:

Jessica Wright has agreed have a go at being my partner in running the SkateLog Forum! I am very excited about this possibility. She's going to try it for a while, and if she decides it's something she has time for and enjoys, she will most likely - over time - assume a stronger and stronger role in hosting and managing the forum. For now she is helping me out, but perhaps eventually I will only be sponsoring the forum and helping her out.

Jessica and I are not going to try to make this transition happen overnight - there's really no big rush - but she is now the official "Forum Co-Administrator" and over the next few months she will gradually learn how to do everything I do. She has experience running a forum, and she is studying to be a Web developer, so I'm sure she will have no trouble picking up on the vBulletin way of doing things.

I thought very long and hard before I approached Jessica with this idea. We have many forum visitors who I know could do a great job helping me run this forum, but I really wanted to find a co-host who would be most likely to have the same philosophy about running a forum as I do, and not turn it into a power trip. And someone who can be the voice of reason when things get sticky, and handle touchy situations in a calm, friendly, and relaxed way without getting defensive or going ballistic. And just as important... I wanted someone who would share my feeling that it's really the skaters' forum and sponsoring and managing it is just our way of contributing to the international skating community.

I asked Jessica if she would be willing to join me as co-administrator because I think the way she interacts with forum users is - in many ways - very much like my way. I could not be more pleased that she has agreed to try it.

Thank you so much Jessica!

And a big virtual hug to everybody else. Please join me in welcoming Jessica as the new other girl behind the SkateLog Forum. There are two of us now!

- Kathie (and Jessica)

Kathie-

I know words are of limited comfort, but my heart goes out to you and your family. I understand first-hand some of the things you're dealing with right now.

Congratulations and best wishes on your new projects. You have chosen wisely, and Jessica will serve you well. Thanks for all you do.

And Jessica, child, what you have stepped into....

Default i know

I can honestly say I know how you are feeling right now, my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness a couple years ago, and its only been getting worse. (I just turned 17 like two months ago!) and i live with her and my step dad...who doesnt like me.
So my heart goes out to you as someone who understands.

I had some vague idea of what was going on, but learning the full reality of it is heart-wrenching. I truly do feel for you.

I also feel that you couldnít have made a better choice than Jessica. Iím glad at least half of this was good news.

Kathie, Our prayers, best wishes and love are yours during this time of your loss and current challenges. My introduction to you was at the first Disney Marathon in 2003 when a skater friend pointed you out. I have been grateful for all you have done and are doing for skating. Thanks and best wishes and hope to see you and hear from you soon, and often.

Jessica, thanks for picking up the reigns. I know you will do a great job in carrying on the SLF.
