*** The SkateLog Forum Has Been Replaced by SkateDebate Dot Com ***

FROM SKATELOG FORUM HOST KATHIE FRY IN MARCH OF 2020:
This announcement is to let everyone know that after hosting the SkateLog Forum and its predecessors for nearly 20 years, I have decided it is time to permanently turn the forum over to a new owner and administrator. I cannot think of anyone more suitable to take on that role than my SkateLog forum co-host, Florida skater Jessica Wright. I am pleased to announce that Jessica has agreed to establish and host a brand new skating forum, configured like the SkateLog Forum, but with a new name and a new Web Site. This new forum is 100% owned and operated by Jessica.

NEW FORUM NAME: SkateDebate Forum
NEW WEB SITE: SkateDebate.com
NEW OWNER AND ADMINISTRATOR: Jessica Wright

Default Search option

I have tried to use the search option to look for information and I keep getting a message saying that I need to used more that 4 words. When I use more than for words i.e. "breaking in new boots" it gives me the same message. it is very frustrating.

Is there a way to change the search options to have as little as 2 words?

Thanks,

Snappy

Doesn't it say that the words aren't long enough?

The search term you specified (in) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

What it is saying is that "in" is not long enough. "new" isn't either, but I guess once it hits that first one it stops.

The other thing you can do is a google search of the forum. See the Search you've been clicking? Go up a couple of inches and a little to the right, and you will see a Search link. That is the google search. I actually don't like it so much. I'd just use the regular search, and put in "break boots" or "breaking boots".

Good luck!

Use this search instead...

Use Google Technology to Search the SkateLog Forum

It's much better!

I used the search for "breaking in new boots" and this is what I got:

Default A better search engine for the SkateLog Forum

Here's something I just posted in another thread:
Quote:
And while we're on the topic of search... just FYI... you will probably get much better search results by using the bright blue "Search" link at the top of every page in the forum. The white Search link in the blue-gray bar at the top of the forum is the search engine built in to vBulletin. That search is OK. But the bright blue Search link above it uses the Google search engine which - in my opinion - yields better search results.
When you searched for "breaking in new boots" you must have used the vBulletin search (the search link in the blue-gray bar) instead of our forum's Google-based search (the search link of that one, in bright blue). If you use the bright blue search link you will get much better search results.

OK, I just change the name of the Google search link to be "Use Google to Search the SkateLog Forum" and it's still bright blue, and still at the top of every page of the SkateLog Forum. I recommend using that link for much better search results. Hope that helps!

Once you get used to that one, and know what works and what doesn't, and figure out that you nearly always want "show posts" and not "show threads", it works pretty well.

The google one is cool too, because it is so, umm, googly and gives a lot of different results.
