If you already have to log in to post, then this resolves what?
The new password means the general forum population will not have their "new posts" queue filled with zillions of buy-sell posts, yet when they want to buy or sell they can log on to the buy-sell forums at any time.

We're going to try this plan starting October 1, and soon enough we'll see how well the general forum population likes it. Maybe it will turn out to be a great idea, maybe not... we'll see!

I would have thought the same rules that apply now will still apply, If you abuse the buy/sell rules you risk losing your skatelog account, not just access to the buy/sell forum.
What would be the point in that?

It should help with SEDS impulse spending. Out of sight, out of mind.

We'll make sure the password is available to everybody before October 1 when its implemented. No reason to keep it a secret. We're not trying to make it hard to get into the buy-sell forums. Quite the opposite. We want them to be optional, but easy to access at the same time.

The buy/sell/eBay sections have definitely helped and continue to help me. I am one of the types who can't leave a good thing alone. I always have to try something new, and if it don't work the next person can try it. I definitely need that password. : ) I agree with another post too, in that if I don't care for a topic or thread, I just won't look at it and move on to the next.

Not a problem gotsk8s I only added that note about the password not being a secret to clarify to other forum visitors that our reason for adding a password is not to restrict access to the buy-sell forums, but only to make viewing for-sale posts in the "new posts" and "todays posts" queues optional.

Slowly catching up here. I have never used "new post" or "todays post" before. Just found 'em. I usually just scan down and click whatever sounds interesting "or not interesting" if I'm really bored. I can see how it would be annoying if someone clicks "new posts" to check out the latest discussion and it's filled with for sale items that you are not interested in checking out. hmm

Kathy,
While your at it could you include "Advertisement" in that section?

By Advertisement I don't mean posters like Docsk8 who are showing off builds already bought/paid for, but similar to the thread found here http://skatelogforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46177

Which is clearly just an advertisement for the Komplex wheel. I'm not against new products being discussed, As there have been PLENTY of discussion about DA 45 plates, suregrip plates, awesome scott wheels, Faster Skate wheels, etc. that weren't ads..

But that post was clearly an Ad and could easily have been thrown in a 'For Sale/Buy Sale' type thread as new products.

You're right, that post was definitely an ad, and it should have been made in the advertising forum. Please report posts like this whenever you see them. Thanks!

If we did that, it would solve so many problems that I think it would allow us to keep those forums indefinitely, although buyers and sellers need to note that our "no public disputes" rule would still stand.

I think I will try this as an experiment starting October 1.
I want to wait until then, to give us time to spread the word to all of our forum visitors.

Everybody has until October 1 to voice their opinions about this idea...

What problem would password protecting the "buying and selling forums and eBay/Craig's List forums" solve?

Using common sense and reason again, are you? I suppose if you don't like what's on tv you just change the channel too.

Adding a password to the buy-sell-eBay forums is being done so the general forum population will not have to view zillions of for-sale posts every time they check the "new posts" and "todays posts" queues. Those who want to buy, sell, or window-shop will be able to do it anytime by entering an easy-to-type password, but viewing the buy-sell posts will be optional for the general forum population.

We want to prevent buying and selling from eclipsing the skating discussions in the SkateLog Forum and we want to prevent our forum visitors from feeling spammed with zillions of for sale posts when they view the "new posts" and "todays posts" queues.

Because viewing the buy-sell posts will now be optional, those posts will never eclipse the skating discussions in our forum, and we should be able to keep our buying and selling forums around for a long time. That's why we love this idea. Good for everybody!

Seems this is going to be a good thing, there's one member that only post's for sale items, no interest in this member but when I put this member on ignore the title of the posts keep showing up, making this member go away will be nice.

Pity to lose members that actually contribute to the kharma and having to endure those that don't.
