Default Please stop fighting (thread started serious but now it's just in fun)

I'm sorry folks, but there is just way too much fighting going on in this forum right now. I'm getting PM'd like crazy about what this person is saying about that person and what that person is saying about yet another person. Certain forum visitors keep throwing down the gauntlet, pushing each other's buttons on purpose and generally just p*ssing each other off and sometimes appearing to enjoy doing it. If this keeps up we will end up with no forum visitors. And no forum either. I volunteered to sponsor this forum and manage it, and before the recent fighting started I always enjoyed doing it. The public (and PM) fighting and bitterness between certain forum visitors just has to stop. Please please please! I beg you...

Exclamation A Sign Of The Times??

THERE MAY BE NO EASY WAY OUT? SKATING IS AFFLICTED WITH IT NOWDAYS.

When you travel around to different rinks,[adult nights] the first think you will see, EVER RINK has a best skater. There is always sombody trying to out bling and out do the best one to get to the top.

Roller skating is very EGO driven at the present time. Roller Derby has brought out many people and it is entertaining. Competetive!! That EGO thing again. Everbody wants the best stuff now and do the best.

Not to long ago we just wanted to skate. Be happy. Now its I can out Jam you,out run you and my stuff looks better than yours. If it doesn't i will get something better.

It is all about see me and my stuff. But it not just roller skating where this is going on today. One thing about being old, I have seen us go through this kinda stuff before. Think Michael Jordon, everbody in the world wanted to beat him, natural talent with huge practice and work ethic. Hard for him to be humble but he was.

The internet gives us a path to meaness without consquenses. In the old days if you said something bad to me or about my girlfriend,I said meet me out back,no knives or guns in those days just slug and wrestle it out till one of us said uncle. We usually became friends afterwards. Today you can be mean and its ok? We all hope we could be better and that everbody else could too. But I don't have the answer,I just know its out there, and i get involved in it my self, wish I didn't after I did but, when you say it,its done.

It might sound silly??? But maybe you could put a simple little note on the forum. "BE NICE!" Might make us think before we get started?

I used to love this forum, now not really. I only post questions/comments to things really I need to know. For me its not worth it anymore just to chat. I dont even read some posts or forums anymore. Occasionally I take a chance but some topics, I'd rather keep the info to myself now. I dont care for conflict and some folks here seem to thrive on it. And I havent PMed about it either, I just wont post.

Speaking from the quad-skater perspective, I think friction is caused by the fact that the most sought after items related to the sport are no longer produced, therefore rare. Whenever a commodity is in short supply, you get the same result.

I hate to see some of the nastiness going on as well. Sometimes it seems awfully immature and mean, like grade school games. For myself, I vow to do my best to not contribute to causing any unpleasantness and to keep my own posts and discussions polite.
Thanks for hosting this wonderful forum, Kathie.

Hmmm, I kinda had a flashback to sitting in Church and KNOWING the preacher was talking to me...

I know I have made comments that may have made people angry (or at least roll their eyes...) but I hope everyone knows they aren't meant to be mean-spirited. If I have offended anyone I apologize

I will also tend to dress down someone if I think they are out of line, but not much gets under my skin.

Even as it is, this is one of the most civil groups I have posted with.

Yeah, I'd have to say you're probably the worst one.

I could post about the same thing Rg, so +1 for speedy.

Thank you for taking care of this Kathie

Rg, you certinally were not the worst.
Those of us involved all contributed to the conflict.
And that's what made for the volaitile situation.

Damage done... It's time to move on....
my apologies for my contribution to the conflict...

My advice is if you don't like someone, ignore them.

Well that didn't work so well. I had someone going after my posts with comments even when I was minding my own beeswax in other unrelated threads. I even got threatening private messages which needed to be investigated. So Iím glad that Mother Kathie stepped in to tell the little kids to play nicely.

I would love to see her put someone in time out, but I know that she doesn't like the "C" word. CENSORSHIP

I got some threatening PMs recently too...I just put the guy on ignore and it isn't a problem.

Why would people PM Kathie with such petty things...she has enough to do.
Anybody that whines to Kathie in a PM should get a 6 month suspension.

In another sports related forum that I am on a simliar thing has happened. Discussions would become heated and instead of debating the topic..some people resorted to over the top personal attacks. So the forum owner decided to crack down. He wanted only happy thoughts. No disagreements. Like on Family Feud when one of the contestants came up with some inane answer...the rest of the family grinned and shouted..."Good answer! Good answer!.

What he ended up with was the Brave New World of forums. Everyone agreeing with each other or their comments would be erased. Boring.

I hope we can find a happy medium.

Keep up the good work Kathie. We appreciate it.

Not every user in this forum has PM privileges and they can always be taken away.

Well, it looks like all this started on the day I started lurking, and came to head on the day I joined the forum...

Boy do I feel like the Dark Man in "The Stand."

I won't tell you any of the other places I have been, but many them are no longer on the map...
