Ok so I have some reds, pics posted in a previous thread, I have skated them twice now and they are so slippery, I have no grip, slidding all over the place. Are they supposed to be this way? How do they compare to the Yellow Shaman (looking to purchase some)?
Any help would be appreciated! |

If you are slipping on Red Wicked Lips then you won't be able to stand up on a set of Yellow Shamans, I believe they are a little more firmer. Have your Red Wicked Lips re-grooved by Dan Beaver (skategeek79) that should help them grip a little better.

the red lips are probably glazed. a good set of red lips should stick to anything.

![]() 1) do they still have grooves? 2) When you press on the wheel does it feel soft? Red lips should feel soft and grippy to the touch. If it don't, it's glazed.

Yes they still have grooves, I can feel them with my finger not running my nail across them. I wouldnt say they are soft, I would say a medium when I push (so not firm either). They for sure dont feel grippy.

It's like how a pencil eraser on an ooold pencil is all hard and useless. Kind of hard and non-rubbery. or if you have ever seen the tire on an old wheelbarrow when it gets all slick and un-grippy. skate wheels do the same. that is why some people vacuum pack them and store them in the freezer if they aren't going to use them for a while.

Ok so I just went and refelt them, they do have a sticky rubbery feel, but not a lot? So maybe they are supposed 2 be this way and I just can't skate them? Or maybe I have no idea what I'm doing! Geez I wish there were more local knowledgable Az skatres to help me!

There are two forum members that do an excellent job of this for a reasonable price. Contact Skategeek79 (Dan Beaver) and Live2sk888 (Rebecca).

There are some of us around. I'm not an expert, but I know a lot so I consider myself knowledgeable. Send a PM to Madcow (his real name is Bill). He usually skates at Great Skate, but he goes to the other rinks too. Heck I was even up there a couple of weeks ago and I know a couple of knowledgeable folks who skate at the Mesa rink on Saturday nights. Anyway, I'm sure Bill can tell you if they are glazed. Unless you are a real light weight, the reds should feel grippy to you not slick at all. That's assuming they are like red shamans which is what I'm familiar with (see knowledge, not expert ![]()

Well I'm definitely gonna try Bill, or maybe I could just come down to tucson! Either way I think I'm gonna buy the yellows and try them out, worst case they don't work out and someone else will get a good deal on them! Thx to everyone who has helped me!

It might be the floor your skating on... I had a set and in fact it was my only decent set of wheels at the time, and they gripped well at one rink and slid all over the place at another rink... So, I now travel to 5 different rinks reguraly and there are certain wheels I use for certain rinks

I skated on angcor02's Wicked Lips today. They are glazed bad, the wheels are so slick I was doing hockey stops on carpet.
The Lips are hard almost like they were stored outside in a shed or car trunk. I let her borrow my Fusions so she can see what a good wheel feels like. I'm going to send them to Dan Beaver for her, hopefully he can make them somewhat skatable.
