I did not set out to do 50 miles. I was thinking maybe 20 before the weather stopped me. It was my day off so I literally had the entire day to skate. Took me 5hrs 13min skating time as per the GPS, although I know I forgot to Pause the thing at a rest stop or two. I was probably out there 8 hours as I ate lunch and took a few long breaks, not to mention the errand running on the longboard that morning. I got an early skate to beat a bad weather forecast and used my longboard because the ground was wet until about noon and my board is built for wet conditions purposely. Wheels are very soft and grippy not to mention WIDE. They will not slip in corners. So I got 20 miles on the board and was not particularly tired. So I skated home from the park, ate lunch, and returned to the park on my inline skates intending to add a few more miles. The weather looked nasty a couple of times but never rained all day. So I just kept skating and skating and skating. Before I knew it I was at 40 miles with an hour of daylight, the bad looking weather kept the fitness paths deserted of joggers and dog walkers, so I kept at it. At 50 of course I knew I was close to a modern day record and kept skating until I had a couple extra miles. So I did most of those 50+ miles on two adjoining one-mile fitness path loops. BORING. I was listening to music on an iPhone the entire time. Also, about 5 miles were skated on the longboard running some errands before lunch - not on the loops. I have not been back to that stinking park since! Can't stand to look at it right now. BTW...I had 107.8 miles of skating that week. Thanks for asking!

42 Hours for January, consistent and steady.
Concentrating on trick vocabulary rather than distance or duration. I learned another 10 tricks this month.

Are we the only few skaters left not skating in roller rinks? You would think with the prevalence of GPS capability in smart phones that more skaters would be keeping track of miles. I have a girlfriend (my wife knows) who claims to be a technology dunce yet...she keeps track of her miles outdoors on speed quads in order to better rotate her wheels. Bummer is she does not post on Strava or anywhere public. I guess there are others doing same. Wish we could get them in here.

It didn't seem to rain as often but when it did rain, it took no prisoners. Thus, I actually got into more skating days than January but there were few marginal days to make up with cycling. Trade shows and interviews also took a bite. There is hope that March's result will be disrupted by the later. As of this writing, I am hiding out from a washed out Sunday workout. 'Taking a break from interview prep for Tomorrow's third round. |

Nice ESE! Impressive as always. Forgot it was a new month until you posted - which created an email to jog my memory.
I have been going for QUALITY instead of quantity this year, so my miles have dropped but my enjoyment has risen. For February: 28 hours of skating for a total of 248 miles and 24 sessions. As always, my totals include inline skating and longboard sessions. Happy March everyone! (all three of you).

This month I had 13 days in a row of skating, 15 sessions, for 218 miles. Best in some time.
Total miles for March = 251 (Jan = 239, Feb = 248) 2017 Total = 737.6 Missed a lot of days in the beginning of March due to a strained MCL. Weather was fantastic. ![]()

There were a few rain outs, including the one mentioned during the last report but they weren't overwhelming and I made good progress on the dry days. Curiously, there was even a fake out rain day. The radar clearly showed rain but I went anyway and when I got there I found dry roads. What the hell? I had no need for the bike. I cranked out over 500 miles on skates, the biggest haul since August and hands down the best month since the Move. April will certainly be less, and not just because it has one fewer days. I'm starting a new job on Wednesday and travelling the following week. Until I get the skate to work routine down the numbers are going to be meagre. When that does come, it should be pretty good. The new office is about 10 miles from home. Not all of it is stellar and some is unfamiliar. Almost all is on road so stops will degrade performance but 20 miles per day should bring up the distance stats anyway. |

222 skating miles this month. Work kills me in April and the weather has been sketchy too.
Should be back up to speed for May and all summer. No injuries to report.

Been a while since I looked in here. Good to see you still going, Dave. Back yard has taken quite a progression since I saw the last video some time ago. Unfortunately my skating in any form has dropped off quite a bit since I fell last year, tearing a ham string muscle. Trying to get back to it this year. Took my son to the skate park this weekend on bikes, first time there in two years.
Keep it up!

I threw in more cycling, partly due to rain but also to explore potential skate routes to work. Intensity was a little less as did not push as hard on sections that were unfamiliar. I was also out of town for a week skating less on unfamiliar paths. May should be better. The skate commute is largely fixed now so I can focus on going faster. This would have been posted earlier but for transient bugs in Garmin Connect that prevented me from extracting the data. |

No rain at all except for a day lost during a business trip to Fort Collins. Total was back over 500 miles. Way better than April. Not much cycling. Cycling is usually rain day alternate for skating and there just wasn't any need for that. Hiking is usually not worth elaborating on. I hike mostly for social rather than athletic reasons. May, though, included an unusual monster with a groups whose hikes are usually not challenge at all. 4600 feet of elevation gain over the space of 13 miles. A Garmin training effect of 2.9 in an activity that almost always rates under 2.0. (By comparison, only social and very slow skates rate under 2.0) I'm already half way through June now. My skate commute pace is picking up. Volume is steady, owing to the lack of any business trips to date or scheduled. Except for the one rotten wet skate to work, it is shaping up to be a very good month. |

June 2017 Stats:
381 miles on inline skates and longboards combined. 200 hours and 1701.3 miles YTD as of July 6, on skates and longboards combined. At least 50 miles per week cycling only - just my daily commute. No debilitating injuries to report for June. It did rain quite a lot and we had a tropical storm kill almost an entire week of skating weather.

June was clearly not a hiking month. That's because I sacrificed a couple of Hiking Saturdays to gets some group training in for the Barbary Coast Inline Marathon. The race won't show here. It will be on the July ledger. But the training contributed to one killer week. The last full week in June was a maximum skate commute week then I skated a marathon distance with some other speedsters on Saturday. The day after was Sunday and my b-day so I felt the urge to skate my age in miles. I overshot by a mile or two. Added together I skated almost 175 miles that week. If I had skated a full load the next week, I probably would have reached 600 miles for the month. For various reasons, I chose not do so. Probably better that way. Still an impressive month. July is over half way through. I mostly messed up Barbary Coast, though the physical were definitely there. Still racking up the miles. It looks like I won't have another race before Duluth. This is unfortunate but still in flux eclipse travel is just too close to Grand Forks dates so I have to choose. |

Didn't reach 600 miles but beat June every other month since, well, July of last year. Speed is up, though it unclear how much of that is better conditioning and how much is attributed to better wheels. 110's just aren't so fast when they wear down to 105. The one race was a bit of a botch. Due to unclear scheduling/location and not paying adequate attention, I missed the start. It was a strong solo effort but not the result I was looking for nor did it help prepare much for Duluth. No races this month. Instead of skating Grand Forks, I'm headed up to Oregon. Some things are worth missing out a little skating. |
