Lightbulb New trail event in Tacoma

It's hard to find skaters around there geographical parts, but I'm wondering who would be interested in an event every year in Lakewood, WA, that currently has runners and walkers and bikers (motorized and pedaled)... Who would be interested in a skate course also planned?

Interested, maybe. Would need more info. Are you thinking a race or just a group skate? Date? Will it fit around the currant race dates?

Sounds great to me. Depending on details, I would probably drive up for the event. I bet several other indoor and outdoor skaters from Portland would also be interested.

I can definitely think of a few skaters from Oaks who might be willing to drive up for an outdoor event. I also know a few outdoor-only skaters here who often travel to outdoor marathons.

They come up for indoor... It'd be great to (try to) race with them outdoor, too.

It's interesting, we have a lot of skaters in the NW, but no outdoor races anymore. I know our weather can be a bit of a challenge, but the late summer / early fall races in other areas get rain from time to time.

I still want to do the Seattle Express Lanes race. They're closed 'till 10am on the weekends, anyhow. They keep them closed later for various reasons, I would imagine that we could tag on to one of those and run a race. Hard to beat 7 miles of un-obstructed freeway with bridges and tunnels for a skate race. (Ok, the cement isn't perfect and the expansion joints on the bridges aren't ideal, but I think it'd be OK, and the scenery...)

Default What the race is

look at 4us.org (yes, it's a pro-life fundraiser--if you have a problem with that, let's not debate it on a skating website).
I'm thinking about this year seeing how many would be interested in puting a team of skaters on one of the bicycle routes (20,40,70 miles: all road) or on the running routes (2x5k, 10k, 13.2 mile: gravel, dirt, paved).
I'm a staff member at the event, and if we get enough interest, it may become it's own event (for more appropriate distance and surface).
It is August 4th and 5th, so likely good weather, but not necessarily. Lakewood Washington

Default group skate vs. race

This would be a group skate, at least this year. If we do it as it's own event, we could easily make it a race.

What's frustrating is that the politics will get in the way. While I hope this isn't a failure, I worry that it will be and then pointed at as evidence that inline events aren't viable in this area and age.

Default political impact

i was afraid of that. If everyone can't stand the pro-life cause, then my event can't happen. But if i have even a few (let's say 10) people still willing to come and skate, then I'll make this a real event.

Most of the time I don't care where the money goes, but I would have to think long and hard about supporting any side of a political issue.
Would rather keep politicks out of my skating. Did you see the message I sent?
