Default Westin/Omni - Downtown Chicago

TD or Major

Quick question please regarding hotel locations as I'm more seriously checking into the hotels downtown Chicago and we've narrowed it down. I have seen a few maps of hotel locations but they aren't the best. I do have a pretty good handle on where the Drake is located, so I am wondering if either of you may know where the Westin and Omni are located in relation to the Drake. If so that would be a huge help as we need to make a decision soon. Thanks so much.

Both are in the same vicinity as the Drake. Right on the Mag Mile. You'll be near everything. Navy Pier, Oak Street Beach, lots of shopping and plenty of restaurants.

On a side note, the course is shaping up nicely. It looks like the finish will be a .6 mile straight with a little incline thrown in.

Default Chicagoland Inline Marathon News

The Chicagoland Inline Marathon presented by Inline warehouse is shaping up. The course is finalized. You can view the course maps at the Chicagoland Inline Marathon website. There is already over $3000 in prize money and the amount continues to grow. In addition, Luigino Racing is on board as a major sponsor donating 5 sets of their high-end inline frames and 5 sets of their Luigino Swiss bearings, along with a couple sets of new Answer wheels that are making their debut in the next few months. The course is in fantastic shape and will be a fun challenge for all level of skaters. Spread the word. See you there.

I just wanted to add that, when making reservations at the Hilton Garden Inn, I was told that they have pre-arranged cab fares from both airports, as well as from Union Station downtown. I am not sure of the specific cab company, but definitely worth finding out if you are flying in! The fare from Union Station/downtown was pretty high, but the METRA line goes to the Hanover Park stop, which then is supposedly an $8-$10 cab far to the hotel.

And, the METRA has $5/person unlimited ride passes on weekends.

We were in Chicago last weekend and they really do seem to have a good rail transit system(s)!

The Metra is great from downtown. The race site is really close to O'Hare airport. Post here if you have any questions about the race or lodging and transportation. Of course you can also find answers to most questions at the race website at www.chicagolandinlinemarathon.com

I just realized that this is in very close to the same neighborhood that my nephew lives in! (Your first cousin, Jessica!) He lives in Arlington Heights. I have never been there, so even if I don't skate, I may have to come.

We're 98% certain -- hotels have been booked. Barring any complications Joel & I are in.

Registrations are coming in from all over the country and beyond. We already have several skaters coming from Canada. Debbie Rice from Bont North America will be racing. The prize list continues to grow. We currently have over $4000 in prize money and merchandise. There's not a better place to spend the weekend than Chicago. There are so many things to see and do or places to just hang out and enjoy the weather. If you've never been to Oak Street beach you have to make time to go. It's unique in it's urban environment right next to the famous Magnificent Mile.
Registration increases from $50 to $60 after May 31st. Save money...register online now!

I don't know much about downtown Chicago's hotels, but received an email today from Travelzoo about the following 'special' (looks like a good price to me compared to regular price):

For the race weekend, $149 per night (plus taxes) at the Courtyard Chicago Downtown/Magnificant Mile Usual price in the $200s. Promo code is TZO 'sells out quickly'

Edited to add: there are add'l charges for parking, probably the norm...

Here's a link for more info (hope it comes through):
http://hotels.travelzoo.com/chicago-...ng=1&sef=&ptl=

We're arriving Thursday morning in Chicago for a weekend getaway, I think we'll stay downtown for THursday night, then move to race-site hotel for Friday and Saturday nights.

Hope this helps, hope it was ok to post this info

Something you may consider while in the Chicagoland area for the Chicagoland Inline Marathon. Cirque du Soleil is in town until August 10th and there are plenty of seats available for two shows on July 26th. If you've never seen a Cirque du Soleil show you should. It's absolutely amazing. I've seen the show every time they've been to Chicago in the last 15 years or so. It's different each time but this years show is one of the best.

Don't forget to pre-register for the Chicagoland Inline Marathon. It's less than one month away. We have great prizes to give away in raffle and a substantial amount of $$$ to give to the top skaters. I look forward to seeing you all there.

"Registration and warm up will begin at 11:00am, 350 Meter Time trials will begin promptly at Noon. *Note: Indianapolis is the same time as OHIO and one hour different than Chicago."

We're planning on staying in Chicago Saturday night and driving down in the morning. I just noticed the time difference so everyone, HEADS UP!
