Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Please start a new thread for each new question.

Default Ok so.. (should I get 7s, or 8s) Id go with the 7's For weight reduction

ok doc, should I get the Ti royals with the 7mm flip axles.. or should I save a hundred bucks n get them to make me some cheaper 8mm versions with some axle nuts so I don't have to change my bearings..

other than price, any advantages in choosing the 7mm specifications?

As a matter of idle curiosity, who would be making these for you?? Neither is a standard option on Snyders.

You may want to do some searching about flip axles here and in the quad forum. Lots of varied opinions to use them from throw the wheels and bearing son and sk8 to precision shimming the bearing spacings in the wheels.

Also note that the "Ti" Royals no longer have Ti king pins. Snyder has been out of them for over a year (they were manufactured in the early 90s) and the cost of manufacturing new ones them would make them far more expensive to justify making a commercailly viable quantity.

Last but not least, 8mm axles are heavier than the 7mm ones and I know of no 8mm Ti axles in current production for quads. Custom stuff, sure but I don't know of any sk8 manufacturer doing them.

Hope that answers the questions.
