Default Where do you skate?

Ok. I've seen pictures on here of some very beautiful place some of you all skate. Smooth looking roads and paths with some great scenery, be it in the country or city. The best place I have to skate outdoor is around the industrial park the rink I go to is in. Not real scenic, but a nice place to skate. So how bout posting up some pics of some of the place you skate or have skated outdoor.

Default Northerly Island - Chicago lakefront - ~2 mile from heart of city

After Mayor Daley launched his midnight attack to close Meigs Field (Chicago's former lakefront airport) and soon after introduced the plan to convert it into a lakefront park and prairie restoration, I wasn't expecting much. Well this isolated spot is one of the most unknown magical places in the whole city. The 1.3 mile loop of smooth asphalt is the perfect spot to skate outdoors (if it's not too windy). I only encounter at most a few bikes and walkers on every loop on all but the busiest days. Often I complete whole loops without encountering anyone at all. There is gorgeous lakefront to the East, beautiful skyline to the N-W, boat harbor to the West, museums and Soldier Field all around, and sailboats passing in and out of the harbor at the southern tip. There is a fantastic mini beach just to the north, with bath house too! Parking is usually easy and cheap. Any Chicago skaters out there? Lets set up a Sunday morning skate on Northerly Island! I'll take and post some PICs from the ground tomorrow. If anyone travels to Chicago, bring your skates, and I will give you a tour of the best lakefront skate spots.

I see a river and bridge, but exactly where is this nice urban place to skate? Not all of us will just recognize it from the PIC.

Sorry 'bout that.
Downtown Evansville Indiana. What looks like a bridge is the boat launch and parking area. There is about 2.1 miles done, on this section of trail, and they are going to link up to another 2.5 mile section soon. Once the Greenway is done it is supposed to be over 40 miles of trail.

Man those look like some real nice places. I'm going to skate outdoor a little tonight with my girlfriend. I'll get some pics to post so you can see what I'm comparing too.

The thing that really sucks is the Yough River Rail-Trail bike trail is LITERALLY right down the road from my house (about a quarter mile away) and it is a beautiful trail, but it's all dirt and crushed stone. It isn't paved anywhere near me. I've been hoping for years that they would pave it, but I don't think it'll ever happen

Default Here's mine

Here's where I skate. Nice and flat and smooth, but not very scenic.

That white looking building on the left in the last pic is the rink. The road I skate on is a nice 1.1 mile loop around it. There's also a couple roads off of the loop that we skate that are pretty nice too (the road I'm on in the last pic is one of them). Just as "scenic" as the rest though.

this is a little known hill in the shawnee forest of Illinois. This is where I do my speed runs of 45mph+

I'll have to take some pics of this other place I practice jam skating. It's ridiculous and hard to explain. It's the nicest cleanest poured concrete slab bigger than any skating rink floor I've ever seen, and it's just out in the open. They have an inflatable building they put over the top of it for conventions and such, but for most of the year, it's just a huge slick concrete floor. It's a dream to skate on! Jealousy will ensue when you see the pics.

The Longleaf Trace in southern Mississippi. It is a Rails to Trails project that has been around for 10 years now. Free and well maintained.

We currently have the Fort Wayne Rivergreenway, it's right around 20 miles long right now, but they are adding to the tail paths, and are going to connect to some other local trails, plans are in the works to connect a network of nearly 100 miles of trails in the next 5-10 years.

I've skated or biked all of it at some point...I've actually skated just over 5 miles three different days this week. There are some places that are pretty nice and some that get a little rough, but overall it's nice.

Monday I skated 5 miles in 23 minutes, that's right around 13 mph average....

I am a couple weeks into scouting Las Vegas for places to skate. This may well mark the end of my search. For an aspiring slalom skater, it really doesn't get any better than this.

In Boston we are blessed to have quite a few outdoor public rinks... none of them are as smooth as that, though!
